ew. I can kinda sing like him, but only if I do I'm The Slime, which for a woman is sort of odd anyway. But back to the subject, one bad review from a English mag (and we all know how the British press loved Frank) is not enough to condemn it. It's still a great one, and you can always read Mojo if you like
Monster - In truth, its a London magazine and I've only read it twice before, but those issues were a bit better.

MTF - Miss Kitty bought all 3 issues! :)

But, since the offending article is bugging me and its not that long, I'll break my wrists and type it out:

Frank Zappa
Baby Snakes
two stars

Frank Zappa was an irrelevant figure by the late '70s. Having meandered off into cul-de-sacs of muso noodling and puerile sature, the 39-year-old by now mistakenly imagined himself to be the American Varese.
The live footage from Baby Snakes hails from a 1978 Halloween show featuring Adrian Belew, Tery Bozzio and other annoyingly self-satisfied sidemen. Only Roy Estrada provided any continuum from the original prankster spirit of the Mothers Of Invention.
Most of Baby Snakes is devoted to the on-or off-stage antics of Zappa and his tiresome band and fans. For a man who wrote the sublime "Peaches En Regalia", the music from this show at the Palladium in NYC is horrifyingly wanky: heartless jazz-prog, intricacy for intricacy's sake.
Muso wanking isn't the only crime of which Baby Snakes is culpable. Misogyny and homophobia wind like threads through the film. Estrada develops a frenzied interest in a blow-up sex doll, repeatedly jamming its head into a dressing-room sink, while Bozzio constantly queens it up in that faintly suspect manner we've all grown to loathe.
Endless jibes at disco and Peter Frampton have also not dated well. Zappa is no more mean-spirited than say, Kim Fowley, bot nowhere near as funny. The sniggering immaturity of the FZ world view at this point is dismaying after the acute satire of post-Sgt Pepper masterpiece We're Only In It For The Money 10 years earlier.
Baby Snakes, "A Movie About People Who Do Stuff That Is Not Normal" (in case the point isn't clear), would make for an exceedingly tiresome 163 minutes but for the surreal and disturbing claymation of Bruce Bickford, with whom Zappa first worked on 1974's TV special A Token Of His Extreme. Dazzlingly druggy and squirmily sexual Bickford's work still is.
BARNEY HOSKYNS
DVD Extras: None
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

WOW! I don't post often but I feel I must in this case since I brought this blasphemy into our house.

MTF--porn? not in this case, but when necessary, hell yeah!!! :o

Though I have been married to Arkay for about 6 years I only began to appreciate the true brilliance of FZ in the past 18 months. You have to admit, though talented he is an acquired taste. I only saw Baby Snakes for the first time (sober) about 4 weeks ago.
Not to play devil's advocate, but perhaps this writer just doesn't get it. It took me some time and serious listening to "get it".
But all of you are on the money here. His editor should have read what this guy wrote BEFORE publishing it. But isn't that what this world has become, in everything. To alarm, create discussion, argument, dissonance?
It's better if we disagree, it's what will always separate us. Or at least that's what "they" want to believe.
Well, before we all get our panties in a bunch, consider this:

The type of people who would buy this video are not the type of people who would be scared away by a bad review. Frank got bad reviews all the time. It's not like this is some Charlie Sheen movie, where a bad review will cut into ticket sales.

If anything, this review will probably generate way more sales of the video than it takes away. This putz has alerted a lot of people to the fact that the video exists; and they'll run out and buy it regardless of what the putz said.

As P.T. Barnum was fond of saying, there's no such thing as bad publicity.
Hmmmmm gotta say you're right. Good point.
