The History Channel had an excellent special on recently called "I Know What I saw", it revolves around some current mass sightings and a press conference held in Washington DC in I believe 2004 with the people who came forward to describe their sightings. This included military, commercial pilots, astronauts, and other witness's. I believe it can be seen on line and is worth watching...check it out.

You might be referring to the Disclosure Project collective interview in the the national press club, that took place in 2001 but was badly obfuscated by the happening in 911:

The meeting occurred January 2008, here is some press stuff...

I KNOW WHAT I SAW, a documentary guaranteed to change the way we see the universe. Director, James Fox assembled the most credible UFO witnesses from around the world to testify at The National Press Club in Washington D.C.: Air Force Generals, astronauts, military and commercial pilots, government and FAA officials from seven countries tell stories that, as Governor Fife Symington from Arizona stated, "will challenge your reality".

Their accounts reveal a behind-the-scenes U.S. operation whose policy is to confiscate and hoard substantiating evidence from close encounters to the extent that even Presidents have failed to get straight answers. I KNOW WHAT I SAW exposes reasons behind government secrecy from those involved at the highest level.

Fox has won the support of several key media, government and military personnel, and has made numerous television and radio appearances including:

Larry King Live (CNN) appearances
7/16/07 11/9/07 11/18/07 1/24/08 7/8/08 7/18/08 8/21/09

Anderson Cooper 360° (CNN) appearance
11/12/07

ABC Nightline appearance
7/6/07

Dateline NBC appearance
5/18/08

George Noory's Coast to Coast Radio

Additionally, because of the strength of his ratings and the high level of interest from his audience, Larry King has indicated to James Fox an interest in promoting I KNOW WHAT I SAW. With the worldwide unrelenting UFO fascination and the phenomenal success of fictional UFO films, it is high time for an up-to-date documentary about UFOs for worldwide release.

ERATH COUNTY'S UFO EXPERIENCE FEATURED ON TV SUNDAY
By Jane Pratt

Several residents of Erath County will appear in the History Channel’s presentation of “I Know What I Saw” produced by James Fox at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Angelia Joiner, the reporter who first wrote about UFO sightings in Erath County in 2008, said one of the locals on the program is Ricky Sorrels. She said Fox has said he is the most credible UFO witness he has ever interviewed.

Also in the film are Lee Roy Gaitan of Dublin, David Jaquess of Stephenville and Steve Allen of Glen Rose. Allen was the first person to report the sightings to Joiner at the local newspaper.

“The Stephenville event is the largest mass sighting since Phoenix lights occurred more than a decade earlier,” Joiner said. “It made international headlines due to the credibility of the witnesses in the Stephenville and Dublin area.”

Fox made several trips to Stephenville to interview witnesses. He has also included information on the radar report compiled by Robert Powell, National Mutual UFO Network research director, and Glen Schulz, retired radar specialist. Both confirm eight witnesses of an unknown object flying without a transponder in time and direction.

“Anyone who attended the Mutual URO network meeting in January 2008 at the Dublin Rotary club building may find themselves in the movie,” Joiner said.

Just watched this...quite interesting. Im a believer BUT same lame, annoying soundtrack.

Why do all the documentaries about UFOs insist on using some creepy, pseudo space music as a soundtrack. It really helps fuel the phoniness side of the argument.

I'm with you it just clowns up a serious subject, bye the same token why the crappy soundtracks on porn? If they want some good fucking music maybe some Zappa solos would be better. Hey and some Zappa synthesizer for the UFO show...

Aliens 'already exist on earth', Bulgarian scientists claim

Aliens from outer space are already among us on earth, say Bulgarian government scientists who claim they are already in contact with extraterrestrial life.

Work on deciphering a complex set of symbols sent to them is underway, scientists from the country's Space Research Institute said.

They claim aliens are currently answering 30 questions posed to them.

Lachezar Filipov, deputy director of the Space Research Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, confirmed the research.

He said the centre's researchers were analysing 150 crop circles from around the world, which they believe answer the questions.

"Aliens are currently all around us, and are watching us all the time," Mr Filipov told Bulgarian media.

"They are not hostile towards us, rather, they want to help us but we have not grown enough in order to establish direct contact with them."

Mr Filipov said that even the seat of the Catholic church, the Vatican, had agreed that aliens existed.

He said humans were not going to be able to establish contact with the extraterrestrials through radio waves but through the power of thought.

"The human race was certainly going to have direct contact with the aliens in the next 10 to 15 years," he said.

"Extraterrestrials are critical of the people's amoral behavior referring to the humans' interference in nature's processes."

The publication of the BAS researchers report concerning communicating with aliens comes in the midst of a controversy over the role, feasibility, and reform of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Last week it lead to a heated debate between Bulgaria's Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, and President Georgi Parvanov.

Fossils of Martian bugs found on meteorite that landed on Earth 13,000 years ago

New evidence has made it more likely that remnants of Martian microbes were transported to Earth in a meteorite, it was revealed today.

A study by scientists from the American space agency Nasa has found chemical signatures in the rock strongly associated with life.

The discovery strengthens the case for believing that worm-like structures in the meteorite are 'microfossils' of ancient Martian bugs.

Sceptics have pointed out that similar-shaped structures could be formed from non-biological processes.

Another unanswered question is whether the microfossils were the result of contamination by Earthly bacteria. This was originally ruled out by Nasa but has raised doubts in the minds of other experts.

The meteorite, catalogued as Allen Hills (ALH) 84001, crashed onto the frozen wastes of Antarctica 13,000 years ago and was recovered in 1984.

Scientists believe the rock was blasted off the surface of Mars by an asteroid or comet, reaching Earth after floating through space for around 16 million years.

It would have formed part of the planet's crust at a time billions of years ago when many experts believe water flowed on the surface of Mars, and conditions were suitable for life.

In 1996 Nasa and the White House made the explosive announcement that the rock contained traces of Martian bugs.

Image

Photographs were released showing elongated segmented objects that appeared strikingly lifelike.

However, the excitement did not last long. Other scientists questioned whether the meteorite samples were contaminated. They also argued that heat generated when the rock was blasted into space may have created mineral structures that could be mistaken for microfossils.

The new study was conducted using advanced high resolution electron microscope techniques which were not available 13 years ago.

News of the findings, expected to be released soon by Nasa, was leaked to the space news website Spaceflight Now and picked up today by the Sun newspaper.

The research was led by Dr Kathie Thomas-Keprta and members of the original team at the Johnson Space Centre in Houston, Texas, that claimed to have found evidence of life in the meteorite.

It focused on a more detailed analysis of magnetite crystals - tiny magnetic particles - and carbonate discs within the rock.

Certain bacteria on Earth are known to contain magnetite crystals, which they are believed to use as tiny compasses to help them navigate.

The crystals form unusual shapes when associated with bacteria which can be seen in ALH 84001, it is claimed.

Image

In addition the scientists say the chemical purity of the features they studied points to biology rather than geology, and a possible interaction with water.

Dr Dennis Bazylinski, from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, who reviewed the findings submitted for publication in the journal of the Geochemical and Meteoritic Society, told Spaceflight Now: 'I think the paper is really excellent. I work on magnetic bacteria, and one indication there was life on ancient Mars are these particular magnetite crystals in the meteorite that look like they came out of magnetic bacteria.

'At first, I thought there might have been an error. I have no doubt about that now. I know there is no error.

'The big question is can these things be reliable magneto fossils, and that is a matter of debate. But it turns out that the magnetic bacteria make some very unique shapes of magnetite crystals. And one of the organisms we work with on Earth makes particles that look virtually identical to what we see from Mars in the meteorite.'

Spaceflight Now said the data provided "a powerful new case" for believing the meteorite carried traces of extraterrestrial life, according to its sources.

The report added: 'Although not a smoking gun, the new findings considerably strengthen the Mars life arguments that have been hotly and passionately debated for a decade, given that the discovery of life on Mars is the Holy Grail of science.'

Mutilated Farm Animals Most Likely Victims of UFO Experiments

Several waves of cattle mutilation were reported in the end of the 20th century. A mysterious “predator” opened animal carcasses cutting out their internal organs. The predator was unstoppable and dead cattle were found even in zoos.

Image

The most mutilations occurred in 1975 – 1976, the worst of them found in the US. There were thousands of victims. In Colorado alone three cows on average were mutilated on a daily basis. Governor Richard Lamm then stated that the mutilations were "one of the greatest outrages in the history of western cattle industry." Once, buffaloes were mutilated in Cheyenne Mountain that at the time hosted a US Air Force Defense Station. The predators were not stopped by thousands of soldiers patrolling the area. Bloodless animal carcasses remained the challenge that the Americans could not stand up to.

In 2009, cattle mutilators came back. On March 8, a dead cow was found near the Purgatoire River by Mike Duran, a cattle rancher.

"She's an older cow so I thought she may have died. … I spotted her near the (Purgatoire) river bottom and went and looked at her. She was on her side and it looked a little odd. When I took a closer look I saw that her udders had been removed," Duran said. It appeared as if the utters were cut off with a laser. There was no blood on or around the carcass and the incisions were perfectly round.

Two weeks later, Jim Garren, a rancher from Walsenburg, Colorado, also found a dead cow with its udders cut off.

"We searched and searched and we could not find blood on the ground or on the cow. I just can't understand how anyone could surgically remove a part from an animal and not spill some blood," he said.

Absence of blood is one of the characteristics of an invisible forces’ attack. After opening carcasses, veterinarians find out that there is not a single drop of blood in them. It is very difficult to bleed out an animal because when arteries are cut open, veins close and hold the blood back. The blood can be removed by pumping salt solution through arteries, but it is difficult to do in a field.

Rancher Tom Miller found one of his calves dead near a feed tub where cows congregate to eat twice daily.

"It's the strangest thing I've ever seen. I cut the hide and the legs just fell off. All the bones were broken," Miller said.

This happens when a mutilated animal is thrown down from above. There were a number of cases when ranchers found carcasses in the trees, hanging off power lines, or other places where a cow cannot get on its own. Traces of animals in the snow or mud would suddenly disappear as if the animals were lifted in the air. Coyotes and vultures would not touch the carcasses.

Miller said about 10 years ago he found another one of his cows mutilated. That cow had its ears, tongue, eyes and reproductive organs removed.

"I really don't know what it is. I think maybe it was a UFO. According to the circumstances, that is what it seems like," Miller said.

On March 17, the night Miller lost his calf, a dark triangular craft was reported flying over Colorado Springs. UFO investigators think it is not just a coincidence.

Argentinian epicenter

Most mutilation cases occurred in Argentina last summer near the city of Puelches, in Southwestern La Pampa. Farmers reported seeing UFOs flying around the farms and then finding mutilated cattle.

On June 30, another mutilated animal was found on the farm. It was a cow with incisions on one of its jaws, and was also missing one ear and inner ear, an eye, and had had all of its anal structure removed.

The cow’s owner said he was in the backyard accompanied by his son when the night "was suddenly turned to day" as a very large, bright object hovered over one of the cattle pens.

Terrified, both farmers entered the house and watched the UFO through a window. None of the farm animals were injured on that occasion, but cattle mutilations began soon.

Alejandro Napuri, a veterinarian, commented on a notorious case that occurred in a Buenos Aires province: "… there wasn't a single drop of blood at the site. Its tongue had been ripped out and the bone was exposed. This isn't an easy thing to achieve. The incisions observed have nothing to do with any mouse or predator," the vet explained.

In June, several more mutilated animals were found near Puelches . A local rancher said that she saw strange lights flying around several nights in a row. A rancher from Embajador Martini, Province of La Pampa, observed panic in his herd when a UFO object “shaped like two soup-bowls joined at their edges” flew over the animals.

Intergalactic slaughterhouse

Thirty years ago the link between UFOs and cattle mutilation became more obvious. Imprints of flying saucers, circles of burnt grass and increased radiation were found next to mutilated carcasses. Some lucky ones managed to see the objects themselves at the place of crime.

The most significant events happened at that time in Alaska. Five tourists staged a camp near the Yukon river. One of them woke up early in the morning and went down to the river to wash his face. While walking, he saw about 20 hanging “saucers” of orange color. He rushed to tell his friends, but by the time they were up the UFOs were gone.

Having walked half a mile towards the river, the tourists stumbled upon a gigantic ring of burnt grass. Inside the ring there were four triangle imprints pushed into the ground two to four inches. There were hundreds of dead animals lying around. Antlers and legs cut off elks were dumped in separate piles. All internal organs were missing. Grizzly carcasses were missing eyes and jaws, reign deer were missing skeletons. There was not a single drop of blood, the wounds looked clean and neat. A skinned carcass of a whale 14.8 feet long was found nearby.

For the most part, biologists and veterinarians who came across strange events had no comments. At times, carcasses of mutilated animals decomposed extremely fast. Sometimes they would not spoil even under the sun, as if they were embalmed.

Studying the samples under a microscope, veterinarians found three types of incisions. They included incisions made with a red-hot scalpel-like tool, simple incisions made with a razor, and absolutely unique incisions. They were made with a tool that did not cut but rather moved the tissue apart without damaging it. Scientists are not able to make such incisions under field conditions.

All attempts to take a picture of mutilators at work failed. In 1995, a farmer from Northern Saskatchewan told a UFO investigator that he found a dead unmutilated cow 500 yards from his house. The investigator suspected that the murderers would come back to take the internal organs. He installed a video camera on a tri-pod that transferred a signal to a TV with a video recorder. The camera worked well for a few nights, but twice the image would disappear for approximately 12 minutes. On both occasions, the carcass was badly mutilated and the film was light-struck as if a strong beam of light was directed right at the camera.

Skeptics prefer to comment on easily explainable cases when dead cattle were obviously mutilated by vultures and say that all other cases have the same explanation. The same explanation was used by Kenneth Rommel in his report “Operation Animal Mutilation” who received a grant from the Federal Law Enforcement Assistance Administration to investigate mutilation reports in New Mexico. It was done to prevent the repetition of Colorado events when farmers were shooting at helicopters and “suspicious” vehicles.

Cows, horses, and rabbits without ears

Now diseased UFO investigator German Kolchin wrote that in Russia, mutilated animals missing internal organs were found in Primorsky Krai and the Volgograd Region. In 1987, a mutilated carcass of a cow was found at a collective farm near the Ural Mountains, and at the same time UFOs were observed in the same area.

On May 22, 2002 the Krasnodar city newspaper “Kuban News” published a letter describing strange events. The author’s grandmother heard her dogs barking at night and stepped outside to see what was going on. All her dogs were looking at the rabbit barn in the yard. She found three strangled baby rabbits with their ears cut off. On the way to her house, the woman saw a light ball flying out from under the rabbit cage.

In 1996, Vladimir Chechurin, a hunter residing in Amga village, Yakutia, lost his horse. A few days later the horse was found dead. The horse’s bones were intact, but his internal organs were a mess and his heart and lungs were missing. The hunter remembered that he saw several UFOs in the area a few days before the incident.

The good news is that aliens are not hunting humans after practicing on animals.

The night aliens called on Lennon

They came in the darkness and had bug-like faces. Stranger still, they left a weird egg-shaped object behind. Uri Geller recalls his friend John Lennon’s encounter with the unknown

There is an egg-like object in my pocket. It was given to me by John Lennon. And it was given to him by . . . well, I’ll come to that.

Image

We were eating in a restaurant in New York City. Yoko was with us, so this was after their big break-up and reconciliation. Yoko was expecting their child, Sean, and John was excited — he was going to love this baby day and night: feed him, change him, teach him to talk, teach him to love music.

He did all of that. And he was going to watch him grow into adolescence, through the tumbles from bicycles and terrors of schooldays, from reading to dating to college. He never got to do that. John started talking about UFOs.

He said he believed life existed on other planets, that it had visited us, that maybe it was observing us right now. He took me to a quieter, darker table, lit a cigarette and pointed its glowing tip at my face.

“You believe in this stuff, right?” he asked me. “Well, you ain’t f---in’ gonna believe this.

“About six months ago, I was asleep in my bed, with Yoko, at home, in the Dakota Building. And suddenly, I wasn’t asleep. Because there was this blazing light round the door. It was shining through the cracks and the keyhole, like someone was out there with searchlights, or the apartment was on fire.

“That was what I thought — intruders, or fire. I leapt out of bed, and Yoko wasn’t awake at all, she was lying there like a stone, and I pulled open the door. There were these four people out there.”

“Fans?” I asked him.

“Well they didn’t want my f---in’ autograph. They were, like, little. Bug-like. Big bug eyes and little bug mouths and they were scuttling at me like roaches.”

He broke off and stared at me.

“I’ve told this to two other people, right? One was Yoko, and she believes me. She says she doesn’t understand it, but she knows I wouldn’t lie to her. I told one other person, and she didn’t believe me.

“She laughed it off, and then she said I must have been high. Well, I’ve been high, I mean right out of it, a lot of times, and I never saw anything on acid that was as weird as those f---in’ bugs, man.

“I was straight that night. I wasn’t dreaming and I wasn’t tripping. There were these creatures, like people but not like people, in my apartment.”

“What did they do to you?” Lennon swore again. “How do you know they did anything to me, man?” “Because they must have come for a reason.”

“You’re right. They did something. But I don’t know what it was. I tried to throw them out, but, when I took a step towards them, they kind of pushed me back. I mean, they didn’t touch me. It was like they just willed me. Pushed me with willpower and telepathy.”

“And then what?”

“I don’t know. Something happened. Don’t ask me what. Either I’ve forgotten, blocked it out, or they won’t let me remember. But after a while they weren’t there and I was just lying on the bed, next to Yoko, only I was on the covers.

"And she woke up and looked at me and asked what was wrong. I couldn’t tell her at first. But I had this thing in my hands. They gave it to me.”

“What was it?” Lennon dug into his jeans pocket. “I’ve been carrying it round ever since, wanting to ask somebody the same question. You have it. Maybe you’ll know.”

I took the metal, egg-like object and turned it over in the dim light. It seemed solid and smooth, and I could make out no markings. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

“Keep it.” John told me. “It’s too weird for me. If it’s my ticket to another planet, I don’t want to go there.”

When we first met on November 28, 1974, almost exactly 30 years ago, he was suffering terribly from his separation from Yoko. His drug abuse and drinking, linked to the sorrow of Yoko’s recent miscarriage, had driven them apart, and John desperately wanted to mend the relationship.

He just didn’t know how to make the first move. The night Lennon and I were introduced, Elton John was playing at Madison Square Gardens. Elton was trying to persuade the ex-Beatle to get up on stage with him, and John was torn — he wanted to perform but he was scared.

Finally, he turned to me and offered a deal, as though I were a negotiator sent by God: “I’ll sing,” he said, “but you have to make Yoko call me.”

Like all of John’s jokes, this one was a plea from the heart, wrapped in a sardonic quip. Yoko phoned John out of the blue, 36 hours later. I think John always believed I had beamed a mind-control ray at her. For my part, I think that of all the synchronicities that have shaped my life, that was one of the strangest.

John Lennon was a compulsive doodler. The last autograph he ever signed, 15 minutes before Mark Chapman gunned him down outside his home at the Dakota Building, on December 9, 1980, features a double portrait of himself and his wife, Yoko Ono. The drawings are done in a couple of lines — the style is unmistakable and so are the faces.

I always marvelled at John’s skill as an artist. There is no doubt that, if he’d been tone deaf and tuneless, the boy who created The Beatles could have become a successful painter or illustrator. During the last year of his life, we met most weeks to chat over a coffee in one of the hotels near our New York homes.

Sometimes John would bring Sean, who was about four years old then. The rocker had put his music career on hold while the child was small. John once told me how bitterly he regretted that while his first son, Julian, was a toddler, he himself was devoting his energies to the stage or the studio, or would be out partying with friends.

“You don’t get those years back,” he said. “I’m not going to miss a minute while Sean is growing up.”

That is the greatest tragedy of my friend’s death. He had finally learned what made him happy, and then he was robbed of it. What really interested me about John was not his incredible life, his fame or his talent, but his deep spirituality.

I too was working out what made me happy — I’d realised at last that buying watches and eating six helpings of dessert before making myself throw up was not the path to nirvana.

The shock of Lennon’s murder was one of the powerful forces that drove me to quit New York and spend a year in Japan, undergoing a spiritual detox. John spoke with passion about Japanese views of life, and I am certain that Yoko’s philosophies were at the core of his last years.

I was woken on the day John was shot by a call from a friend, Roland, a publisher who lived opposite the Dakota.

“He’s dead,” Roland sobbed. “They killed John.” I dressed in a few seconds and ran across town: somehow I had to see the house to believe the news. The radio reports weren’t enough.

If John really were dead, if this wasn’t some sick media hoax, then there would be people outside his home with candles and prayer bells. They were there, in their hundreds already.

I didn’t have to push my way through the crowd; I simply stood and stared across the road, and then walked away through Central Park with the tears running down my face.

Now, 24 years on, when I hold the cold, metal egg in my fist, I have a strong sensation that John knew more about this object than he told me. Maybe it didn’t come with an instruction manual, but I think John knew what it was for.

And whatever that purpose was - communication? healing? a first-class intergalactic ticket? - it scared him. I wish I could have warned him . . . that however scary aliens seem, it’s the humans you have to fear.

UFO sightings - MoD 'blanked out' insults about reports

Defence officials' insulting remarks about the public had to be blanked out of government UFO files before they were made public, a memo has revealed.

Image

The Ministry of Defence had agreed to publish its full archive of reported sightings in response to a deluge of Freedom of Information Act requests.

But the once-secret memo, published on its website, reveals "uncomplimentary comments" were edited out.

Comments on international relations and defence technology were also deleted.

Thousands of pages from the department's UFO files have been released through the National Archives since 2008, revealing details of reported flying objects and encounters with aliens.

The newly released memo to ministers and defence chiefs, dated September 2007, discusses how to make the largely "low security classification" information public.

It notes they "include references to air defence matters, defence technology, relations with foreign powers and occasional uncomplimentary comments by staff or police officers about members of the public, which will need to be withheld in accordance with FoI principles."

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) recorded UFO sightings from the end of the Second World War until it shut its special investigation unit on 1 December last year.

Officials feared publishing only part of the information would "fuel accusations of a 'cover-up'," the document reveals.

"Contrary to what many members of the public may believe, MoD has no interest in the subject of extraterrestrial life forms visiting the UK, only in ensuring the integrity and security of UK airspace," it says.

"The MoD is aware of no clear evidence to prove or disprove the existence of aliens, and consequently the files are considerably less exciting than the 'industry' surrounding the UFO phenomena would like to believe."

The fifth instalment of MoD UFO files was released last week, revealing reports of a large triangular UFO hovering in the skies above former home secretary Michael Howard's home near Folkestone, Kent, in March 1997.

Stephen Hawking warns over making contact with aliens

Aliens almost certainly exist but humans should avoid making contact, Professor Stephen Hawking has warned.

Image
Mr Hawking says it is 'perfectly rational' to believe in aliens

In a series for the Discovery Channel the renowned astrophysicist said it was "perfectly rational" to assume intelligent life exists elsewhere.

But he warned that aliens might simply raid Earth for resources, then move on.

"If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans," he said.

Prof Hawking thinks that, rather than actively trying to communicate with extra-terrestrials, humans should do everything possible to avoid contact.

He explained: "We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet."

In the past, probes have been sent into space with engravings of human beings on board and diagrams showing the location of our planet.

Radio beams have been fired into space in the hope of reaching alien civilisations.

Prof Hawking said: "To my mathematical brain, the numbers alone make thinking about aliens perfectly rational.

"The real challenge is to work out what aliens might actually be like."

The programme envisages numerous alien species including two-legged herbivores and yellow, lizard-like predators.

But Prof Hawking conceded most life elsewhere in the universe is likely to consist of simple microbes.

In the recent BBC series Wonders of the Solar System, Professor Brian Cox, a physicist from the University of Manchester, also suggested life may exist elsewhere within our solar system.

He said organisms could be present under the ice sheet that envelops Europa, one of Jupiter's moons.

Professor Cox added: "Closer to home, the evidence that life could exist on Mars is growing.

"We will only know for sure when the next generation of spacecraft, fine-tuned to search for life, are launched to the moons of Jupiter and the arid plains of Mars in the coming decades."

Isn't it true that some radio frequency broadcasts eventually find their way out of our atmosphere and into space, where they continue on for eons? I know I read this somewhere, and the big green dino-aliens on Futurama were deeply engaged by a very old Earth television drama...I think it was Ally McBeal, I don't really remember.

Anyhoo...any intelligent life that could pick up on these broadcasts would without a doubt avoid any contact other than contact with the intent to destroy. If Earthlings ever do enter the realm of outer space travel and colonization, they will most likely be eliminated pre-emptively as a known contaminant.

Now, check this out:

Russian president asked to investigate alien claims

A Russian MP has asked President Dmitry Medvedev to investigate claims by a regional president that he has met aliens on board a spaceship.

Image
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the leader of the southern region of Kalmykia, made his claim in a television interview.

MP Andre Lebedev is not just asking whether Mr Ilyumzhinov is fit to govern.

He is also concerned that, if he was abducted, he may have revealed details about his job and state secrets.

The MP has written a letter to Mr Medvedev raising a list of his concerns.

In his letter he says that - assuming the whole thing was not just a bad joke - it was an historic event and should have been reported to the Kremlin.

He also asks if there are official guidelines for what government officials should do if contacted by aliens, especially if those officials have access to state secrets.

Mr Ilyumzhinov said in an interview on primetime television that he had been taken on board an alien spaceship which had come to planet Earth to take samples - and claims to have several witnesses.

He has been president of Kalmykia, a small Buddhist region of Russia which lies on the shores of the Caspian Sea, for 17 years.

The millionaire former businessman has a reputation as an eccentric character.

As president of the World Chess Federation, he has spent tens of millions of dollars turning the impoverished republic into a mecca for chess players - building an entire village to host international tournaments.

Thanks for sharing Maroual. I heard about it from people who know I am interested in the subject, but I haven't seen a news report then.

From today:

RAF UFO encounters may have been covered up by Churchill and Eisenhower

In light of documents released by the National Archives, The United Kingdom's Ministry of Defense has investigated claims that Winston Churchill and Dwight Eisenhower may have orchestrated a cover-up of an Unidentified Flying Object sighting by the Royal Air Force.

Numerous public inquiry files suggest that great concern was had for the proposition that former Prime Minister of The UK, Churchill and than US General Eisenhower, knew of an unknown metalic object approaching RAF aircraft off the British coast during World War II. One inquiry noted a discussion between Churchill and Eisenhower overheard by Churchill's body guard by the apparent grandson of the body guard (who's name was blacked out).

The inquiry read, "During the discussion with Mr Churchill, a consultant dismissed any possibility that the object had been a missile, since a missile could not suddenly match its speed with a slower aircraft and then accelerate again [...] Another person at the meeting raised the possibility of an unidentified flying object, at which point Mr Churchill declared that the incident should be immediately classified for at least 50 years and its status reviewed by a future prime minister".

Further records showing Churchill's general interest in UFOs were released along side many other public inquiry files that concluded any UFO sightings were no threat to British airspace and minutes from a Joint Intelligence Committee meeting in 1959, where UFO sightings were a major theme.

Sightings made by officials and civilians were discussed at the Joint Intelegence meeting and 16 cases were singled out, 10 were identified as technical faults, misinterpretations and hoaxes - while 6 remain unidentified.

The unit of the Ministry of Defence that dealt with UFOs was closed last year.

My daughter Plook the elder was all over this story and sent the BBC link to me

She was intrigued by the suggestion that more UFO reports in the mid 90's was related to the show X-Files popularity, my suggestion to her was the nexus between the show and the increase was the fact that it caused people to look and therefore they saw. As one reluctant UFO witness from Unsolved Mysteries once stated, if you don't want trouble don't look up, ignorance is bliss.

Exactly...

Churchill ordered UFO cover-up, National Archives show

The government took the threat of UFOs so seriously in the 1950s that UK intelligence chiefs met to discuss the issue, newly-released files show.

Image
Spotters often drew what they saw and sent pictures to the MoD

Ministers even went on to commission weekly reports on UFO sightings from a committee of intelligence experts.

The papers also include a wartime account claiming prime minister Winston Churchill ordered a UFO sighting be kept secret to prevent "mass panic".

The files show reports of UFOs peaked in 1996 - when The X Files was popular.

The Joint Intelligence Committee is better known for providing briefings to the government on matters relating to security, defence and foreign affairs.

But the latest batch of UFO files released from the Ministry of Defence to the National Archives shows that, in 1957, the committee received reports detailing an average of one UFO sighting a week.

The files also include an account of a wartime meeting attended by Winston Churchill in which, it is claimed, the prime minister was so concerned about a reported encounter between a UFO and RAF bombers, that he ordered it be kept secret for at least 50 years to prevent "mass panic".

X Files

Nick Pope, who used to investigate UFO sightings for the MoD, said: "The interesting thing is that most of the UFO files from that period have been destroyed.

"But what happened is that a scientist whose grandfather was one of his [Churchill's] bodyguards, said look, Churchill and Eisenhower got together to cover up this phenomenal UFO sighting, that was witnessed by an RAF crew on their way back from a bombing raid.

"The reason apparently was because Churchill believed it would cause mass panic and it would shatter people's religious views."

Reports of sightings of UFOs peaked in 1996 in the UK - when science fiction drama The X Files was popular.

According to the files, there were more than 600 reports in 1996, compared with an average of 240 in the previous five years.

The figures for 1996 show 609 reported sightings of unidentified flying objects, 343 letters from the public to the MoD's UFO desk and 22 enquiries and questions from MPs.

But by 2009, the MoD's UFO inquiry desk -Sec(AS)2 - had been closed down.

The 18 files released on Thursday are the latest to come out as part of a three-year project between the MoD and the National Archives.

Dr David Clarke, a UFO consultant to the National Archives, explained why the papers are being made public now.

Dr Clarke told the BBC: "Since the Freedom of Information Act arrived in 2005, this subject - UFOs - have become the third-most popular subject for people to write to the Ministry of Defence saying 'please could you release this file, or papers that you hold on this particular case'.

"What they've decided to do is to be totally open and to say, 'look we're not holding any secrets back about this subject we've got all these files and we're going to make them available to the public'."

One includes details on "aerial phenomena" prepared for a meeting of the Cabinet Office's Joint Intelligence Committee in April 1957.

According to a note included in the Red Book, the weekly intelligence survey, four incidents involving UFOs tracked by RAF radars were "unexplained".
'Spaceman'

The documents also include reports of a famous incident dubbed the "Welsh Roswell" in 1974, where members of the public reported seeing lights in the sky and feeling a tremor in the ground.

Other cases included in the files are:

* A near-miss with an "unidentified object" reported by the captain and first officer of a 737 plane approaching Manchester Airport in 1995.

* A mountain rescue team called to investigate a "crashed UFO" in the Berwyn Mountains in Wales in 1974.

* Attempted break-ins at RAF Rudloe Manor in Wiltshire - sometimes referred to as Britain's "Area 51" - the US's secretive desert military base.
* The Western Isles incident, when a loud explosion was reported in the sky over the Atlantic in the Outer Hebrides.
* The 14-minutes of "missing" film relating to the Blue Streak missile test launch in 1964, believed by some to show a "spaceman".
* A gambler from Leeds who held a 100-1 bet on alien life being discovered before the end of the 20th Century, and who approached the government for evidence to support his claim after the bookmakers refused to pay out. The MoD said it was open-minded about extra-terrestrial life but had no evidence of its existence.

The files come from more than 5,000 pages of UFO reports and letters and drawings from members of the public, as well as questions raised by MPs in Parliament.

They are available to download for free for a month from http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ufos [!]
