The Post Office is very good, also enjoyed some of his short stories.

Hi,

Even in the 70's he was not exactly a "nobody" and even the likes of "The Firesign Theater", Captain Midnight and KPFK were having a ball with this stuff ... and I seriously doubt that Frank would not know, or have heard of this, more likely that Gayle was not aware of it, or didn't like him ... but he was a part of the LA Free Press during the days that it mattered and it was an alternative publication.

After a while he became sort of like Gonzo and Frank ... not very funny and kinda boring and repetitive after a while and the (sometimes) star/ego thing was annoying more often than not!.

Similarity between Bukowski and Zappa: Both tended to mispronounce "absurdity" as "abserbity"... Is it the Southern Californian accent?

I remember from my own past here in Germany, when you considered yourself having outgrown the ordinary, you had to listen to Zappa, read Bukowski …

… and U-Comix (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-Comix
… especially the adventures of the Freak Brothers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fabulous_Furry_Freak_Brothers)

new buk book recently hit the bookshelves; picked up a copy today

the uncollected gutbucket ramblings of the grand dirty old man of l.a. letters have been gathered in this characteristically filthy, funny compilation ... most of the stories are from the l.a. free press during the particularly fertile bukowski period of '72 to '75
