The version on WRMF is totally different to the one on YCDTOSA, Vol. 5
Does anybody have any interesting info about it, like when it was recorded, what the deal is with the rhythm section? The bass is well groovy but the drums are almost awkwardly straight and don't really fit it that well
Zappa obviously wanted it this way*. They are unusually loud in the mix too. It sounds like Art to me and I'm not sure whether JCB is buried under there somewhere too?

Does anybody have the original single version and is it similar to the YCDTOSA, Vol 5 version?
The live version on The Ark is pretty similar in style to this version.

there's a tape of this as a feb69 performance @ Thee Image, Miami, FL, with this song as an instrumental and JCB giving a very jungley sound with the emphasis on the third beat of the measure... that's pretty 'groovy'

there's another arrangement by the '76-'77 band that's radically different from all the above, characterised by a phased sound on fz gtr and terry bozzio's snare and what's her name sharing vocals with frank, at a much slower speed, halloween is a good one

these two are my favorites besides The Ark performance which with the intro, seems definitive.

The single version on YCDTOSA 5 and the Weasels version both have those relatively extreme dynamics but which sound entirely shaped by the new technology at the time - I think it's eight track, it seems, to my ears anyway. IINK says there were overdubs on the weasels version in aug-oct69 when hotrats was being recorded.
