Where's the "3 way tie for Pink Floyd, Yes, ELP" button?

Don't call crimson prog. i voted for e.l.p. although the later crimson is great but i don't call that prog. prog becAME OVERLY orchestratedly pompous. crimson is not. i liked the first handful of yes albums to around relayer before becoming disinterested. never big on pink floyd. no interest in rush. besides their drummer sucks  genesis has some good stuff. i'd vote for gentle giant for president.

don't call it jazz.

Genesis - up to (and including) Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
King Crimson - up to (and including) Red.
Other: Gentle Giant and Hatfield and the North.

Count my votes any way you want, Stude. Couldn't decide on one band. 8)

For like a month or two I was really into "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" and "Foxtrot"...Then I really got a hankerin' for that Crimson MK I live boxset "Epitaph" (especially their version of Gustav Holst's "Mars") and I can only stand Yes for like, one or two albums (early stuff)...

So I guess I'll say Gabriel era Genesis.

Prog is like granola, one bowl and you're good for a while.

I am a big fan of 4 of those bands, KC, Yes, Rush. But my vote went for the Floyd...

They'd probably be my third pick behind Crimson. Either them or Goblin. 8)

I know so little about this genre...

Out of all those bands, I only own Rush's 2112, and while I enjoy that album, I feel like I'd enjoy Moving Pictures much more after hearing "YYZ".

I'm also interested in getting into King Crimson soon.

And I find Pink Floyd very meh.

Crimson not prog? Get fucked.

Prog stands for progressive moron and there music is based on rock and combines elements of other genres therefore they are pushing the boarders of rock therefore it is progressive you fucktard.

Pink floyd isn't really prog but from their ideas only. I guess you could say they were punk prog since ...oh never mind.

Is that "Prog stands for progressive-moron" or "Prog stands for progressive, you moron"? I know, just joking, it's obvious what you mean given the tone of your overall message. You really are an obnoxious prick aren't you?

It's hard for me to compare King Crimson with Pink Floyd. A big part of my like for PF was Roger Water's lyrics and as a team, when they could manage the team thing, the Waters/Gilmour interaction came up with some good stuff. It's not the whole story, but a significant part. KC's stuff is compositionally more dense and I like some of that as well. It's close, but I chose Pink Floyd, they've always had more air time with me than King Crimson. Yes is third, but not so close, they just didn't produce enough stuff that grabbed me to become a significant influence.

This makes me feel old. They may be well established now, but there was a time when they were progressive.

Who are you guys trying to fool? Besides Frank, Floyd and Crimson are the archetypical prog rockers.

They are in my book, so that's what the 'other' option is for.
