A big part of my like for PF was Roger Water's lyrics and as a team, when they could manage the team thing, the Waters/Gilmour interaction came up with some good stuff. It's not the whole story, but a significant part. KC's stuff is compositionally more dense and I like some of that as well. It's close, but I chose Pink Floyd, they've always had more air time with me than King Crimson. Yes is third, but not so close, they just didn't produce enough stuff that grabbed me to become a significant influence.
Wow, things change. King Crimson are easily my favourite prog band now. Admittedly, around the time this thread was started, I was buying up KC albums after not having had them for a long time. I now have all the main ones and I listen to them more often than PF now.
