Great finding. There is also a much shorter excerpt in the documentation DVD FZ and the MOI in the sixties. I was also very surprised and would like to see more of it. I don't know the UM movie, but maybe it contains something from that show.

Something different: Frank Zappa Long King Kong 1968 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMR7agQU7mc
King Kong at the BBC studios in 1968. "Colour Me Pop" show. The same material appears in different incarnations on utube, but here seems the quality better than in other clips(?). It is the version, where at the end Don Preston mutates and then lies down onto a bed in the studio.

Much of the "play" from The Festival Hall footage appeared in the Film Uncle Meat.
I've always been suprised that nobody has ever uploaded it to youtube. To my memory it goes like this;

I will use the titles from the CD track listing (the section Like It or Not was shown at the end of the BBC Documentary from '93 I think)

Progress?
The Jimmy Carl Black Philosophy Lesson
Holiday in Berlin
The Rejected Mexican Pope Leaves the Stage
"Undaunted, The Band Plays On"
Agency Man
Epilogue

These are interspersed with footage of Zappa and Preston at Zappa's home and interviews with Motorhead. Also rehearsal footage of the Mothers at Festival Hall and some "packing" footage of Motorhead, Jimmy Carl Black and a third member of the entourage set to the version of Dog Breath from the album Uncle Meat. Very sureal indeed.....
I used to watch these segments from the film over and over (not the packing, ahem), I was freaking obsessed with it.
Viewing went particularly well with a huge bifter I seem to remember.....!
If only I could watch the entire concert. The quality of the picture and sound is fantastic.

A highlight for me was always Undaunted and Epilogue. The film also did some nice editing of footage of Don Preston sliding down the stage stairs (having been ejected from the piano by Underwood) only to resurface in footage of the Mothers in the Vienna Woods. All with absolutely beautiful music behind it. Another FZ masterpiece.

GZ - Please release the whole concert as it is! Just send me a vhs copy, I promise to keep it to myself 8)

the movie uncle meat has a pretty bad reputation. It is time to change this, otherwise it never will be released on DVD.
Incidentally: in the doku DVD i mentionend above, there is also a small excerpt of the bicycle concerto to find in pretty good quality. So probably the whole shows exists somewhere in much better quality than in the usual utube movies. I want it all...

Watch this entire concept (ZappaTube) crumble right before your very eyes!

(Thanks ZFT! The world doesn't need to be turned on to Frank Zappa and his music via YouTube. Why would something like that be good? Get rid of it!)

PBS has a new episode of History's Mystery's coming in the summer, that has 1/3 of an hour devoted to a painting that was bought at a garage sale in South Carolina. The owner bought it because it had the initials FZ on the bottom. It was described as a painting of drums all in disaray, scattered orderly, around! Sounds like Cal,but could be FZ.I think both met in art school.I wonder how it got to SC and whats it look like? Have to wait and see...

Cal already posted snapshots from this shooting on his FB wall. It's definitely not Cal's work, it's purportedly Frank's work (and from what I saw in the snapshots, it looked like it very well may be!)

Ah sure - she's from the band 'Eleven' that she co-led with her husband. That band rocked! They also worked together in producing Chris Cornell's first (and best, IMO) solo album: Euphoria Morning.
