Has anyone heard of this DVD or know anything about it?
http://www.amazon.com/Beefheart-Vs-Zappa-When-Frank/dp/B00KR33YA8

Is this an official release? What does it consist of? I have my suspicions that it may be a bunch of old material spliced together to make a "new" documentary.

Funny how Amazon is so comfortable selling bootleg DVDs and music these days...

It's not actually a bootleg, just two previously-released DVD's packaged together with a misleading title.

If you don't have either of these, they are must-owns.

I was actually responding to calvin saying that it wasn't an official release, before brainpang brought to light that it was in fact two previously released DVDs. Amazon certainly does sell other bootleg material. Also, just because it was previously released material doesn't mean it can't still be bootlegged by another label later on (not sure if this is the case here or not). I agree with you that these are definitely essential releases for any FZ or Beefheart fan.

But at least Chrome Dreams paid for the production of both documentaries. This is just them repackaging their own official releases.

And now they have produced this - which is brand spanking new: http://www.chromedreams.co.uk/frank-zappa---1969-1973-1075-p.asp

Keep "'em" coming. They're good but not that good.

Not as good as 'good'??

Are there other Zappa documentaries coming out lately that are better?

That's all I need to hear. I don't have either one, so I'm getting it. I'm thinking about bundling it with one of the "grey" market versions of the SNL performances. Any recommendations on which one of those is the best?

All of the grey market SNL releases blow dead goats.

You can buy the complete SNL seasons 1 & 4 for dirt cheap on amazon and get the FZ performances in the best quality available as well as some boffo laughs as well.

Then that is what I shall do. Thank you for the information. Much appreciated. 8)

I was making a little joke about a typo in my original comment.
