I didn't check through the entire forum archives so this may have already been talked to death. I was reading an old Billboard article from 2004 where Gail talks about getting 200 Motels onto dvd. Although the Flo & Eddie version of the Mothers is my least favorite, I would still love to get the dvd. Any news on this?

The Zappa Family Trust doesn't actually OWN 200 Motels.

It's #2 on my DVD wish list (behind the Uncle Meat movie). Someday....

Maybe it'll come out once my daughter has grown up and moved out of the house. That would be ideal.

I have ripped my 200 Motels laserdisc to DVD. If anyone is interested in a trade, please e-mail me privately. No $$ involved.

I have a bootleg DVD. The quality isn't great (it looks like it might have been transferred from an old VHS), but it's good enough.

I haven't seen the Uncle Meat movie yet though.

Add this to my really want it but it's never happening for some reason list. I'll just put it with The Roxy DVD and the original Bat Chain Puller album.

i think that has changed. Gail mentioned it recently (loose use of the word could;ve been up to two years ago.)

the real issue is that there is no REAL original to master from.

200 Motels DVD? Roxy DVD? The Rage and the Fury? Dance Me This?
With the coming of the Rapture now upon us it's rather pointless to ever expect to see/hear these things. We'll just have to wait until humans have reemerged from the oceans and evolution has come full circle. Unfortunately, by that time it just won't be the same...

Hmmmm...seems kinda bogus.
I'm surprised Turner hasn't released this on DVD since they sold a VHS of it in the 80's.

Well this DVD seems available in many shops:

Now this is getting interesting because a few months ago, I remember the same retailer and label names were already involved in press issues dealing with piracy and grey market.

Turner Entertainment never owned the film. Depending on which source you hear it from, either the ZFT has gotten the rights, or MGM/Sony still own it (in which case it would be distributed by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment).

200 Motels was on Turner Classic Movies last weekend. I recorded it on my DVR. I have seen it a bunch of times, on my old VHS copy of it. I wish they would release it to DVD.

The colour of the "DVD" logo is in the exact same place and in the exact same color and tone on the image from the bootleg website and the images on Amazon and Play.

Alot of the time this happens, they don't always use a pic of THE ACTUAL PRODUCT, especially for pre-orders...

Not conclusive enough.

I have just got this on DVD. Its not a great print. My VHS copy taped from UK TV is better quality. Bad colour bleeding in places, no audio restoration. Really does the film an injustice.
Gail should sue. If ZFT re-did the whole thing, I'd buy it. It saddens me that people are allowed to get away with wasting a work of art like this.
In short, for completists only. Of no real value in conceptual continuity.........
