HAPPY HOUR (1999)

A Celebrity Competition/Variety Show Hosted By Ahmet & Dweezil Zappa

I used to watch this on the USA television network. Does anyone else remember it?

Happy Hour was later canceled due to copyright infringement with the name.

Entertainment Weekly review  http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,273887,00.html

Even more misguided [than The Man Show] is Happy Hour, a frat-boy romp hosted by brothers Dweezil and Ahmet Zappa that's part variety show, part game show, and all creep-out. Dweezil may have inherited father Frank's adeptness as a guitar player, but all Ahmet got was Dad's snarky arrogance — perpetually leering and bellicose, Ahmet is currently the most annoying person on TV, and no, I haven't forgotten chef Emeril Lagasse.

As ''10 very naughty girls'' wiggle in scanty costumes, a celebrity panel performs karaoke and answers trivia questions. The celeb quotient is low, with the likes of Adam West, former Baywatcher Alexandra Paul, and ''entertainment reporter'' Katie Wagner [another of Dweezil's celebrity girlfriends - jd], as well as the occasional athlete, like uncomfortable-looking soccer star Cobi Jones, all trying to grin enthusiastically as Ahmet sings ''Goldfinger.''

Happy Hour encourages guests to get into the frat-house spirit — Paul, in a minidress, bent to touch her ankles and told the Zappas she wasn't wearing underwear, which, given their view, they presumably didn't need to be told. In doing so, the show, instead of titillating, sends the viewer into despair at such pandering.

Remember it, I went to most of the tapings. It was fun. I miss the silliness of it....

Hmmm... by the current attitude of TV-hosts I'd say Ahmet was ahead of his time...

Would love to see it, but the clip won't open.

This reminds me of why I didn't own a teevee for some 15 years.

I thought the show was quite funny and was sorry to see it canceled.

A couple, but I don't remember which ones. I think you can see us in the first one. I was backstage most of the time because the crew said we were there so much they gave us a choice and since I went with my best friend who is not a "joining" person (she gets embarassed easily, go figure for an Ahmet fan) and the before show host used to harass anyone who wasn't singing so we sat back and watched from the couch. It was fun. I also freaked out because I was a MR. MR. fan and Steve Farris was in the band. He is such a sweetie and very graciously signed my album....Ahmet thought I was a freak when I asked it if was Steve....
