I previously heard about the interview with Art Tripp...I imagine it is along the lines of the "Under Review -- Captain Beefheart" doc, which is a must for fans, providing one deletes the critics babbling (except CB biographer Mike Barnes). I guess Mr. Unica has already seen it, and if it is poorly produced, I'd like to know.

Saying that, I wonder why the Frank Scheffer films have never been completed (?)/released?

I always thought there was to be a 3rd, too? But I am confused. Anyway, it would be nice if these were officially released on dvd. I've only seen the first one, I think. Peace.

Part 2/2 is the better one imo,last time i downloaded it would not copy to disc and this time it,s so slow

There is. Part 1 lasts an hour, part 2 lasts an hour and a half containing all footage of the 1st plus even more, and part 3 lasts 2 hours, has still more, and it has Steve Vai and ZPZ. I have 1 and 3 on VHS and I saw 2 in cinema.

Frank Scheffer made two documentaries of Frank Zappa and was a work in progress in two phases. Phase 3 don't exist yet

Then what was aired during Zappa week, when FZ hit the cover of the VPRO TV guide? That was a Scheffer documentary, which wasn't Phase 1 or 2. Was it a different title altogether?

I poked around the 'net and it seems to me that Phase 3 is the final, definitive film and the other 2 can almost be considered works-in-progress.
Scheffer was inspired by (and emulated) Franks' artistic style and that's what the 3 Phases mean. They are about creating art, not a 3-part history of Frank Zappa. I really need to see these, starting with 3, 2, 1 (which I have on dvd-r).

At the moment there are only two Frank Scheffer FZ documentaries. The one (200 Motels) mentioned above isn't a Scheffer documentary but a Roelof Kiers one from 1970. Frank Scheffer used a lot of this footage of Kiers for his own works though.

The two documentaries were broadcasted on dutch tv on april 22 and april 29 2007.

I'm even more confused now. Do you count Phase 1 & 2 together? Because the one I saw in cinema in 2002 I didn't see on TV: I did see Present Day Composer Refuses To Die and the one you mention above. Neither Present Day nor Big Note contained the Steve Vai footage or the ZPZ info that was shown on Pioneer Of The Future Of Music.

Part 2 is a sort of director's cut. It has some extra material to phase 1, but a lot of footage and interviews are in both. Perhaps even all of part 1. Thing is I have to recall phase 2 from memory... and I saw it in cinema in 2002...
