Ruben Guevara was actually in Up In Smoke too. He was one of the "Alice Bowie" trumpet players. Cheech mentions him on the commentary track on the DVD.

In the italian movie "Paz!" (set in the late 70s) a vinyl copy of Absolutely Free is shown.
Not really a movie reference, but in the episode "Powdered Toast Man" of the Ren & Stimpy Show Zappa dubs the "Guy in the funny looking hat" (aka the pope :P), but IMHO his voice is almost unrecognizable. [/quote]
Yes, it did. It's on the soundtrack CD too. Oddly enough when I was first dating my current gf, she had me over for dinner one night and there was some moderately sedate international sounding stuff playing. Then out of nowhere comes WIEH. I was pretty surprised, thinking she knew something about Zappa. Turns out she didn't, it just happened to be on the soundtrack she was playing (and she didn't know who it was).

The movie "The Good Thief" starring Nick Nolte and directed by Neil "The Crying Game" Jordan has this quote:

Bob (Nolte): "Why are the French so God-awfully bad at rock and roll?"

French Police Inspector: "What do you mean?"

Bob: "I mean we give you Elvis Presley, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan, and you give us Johnny Holiday."
Masked and Annonymous (which has everyone from Bob Dylan to Val Kilmer to Cheech Marin) is an interesting social satire film that I would recommend to anyone. But I remember Jeff Bridges refferencing FZ to Dylan's character and they start talking about the Uncle Meat Film. I can't remember the conversation but I lit up whenever the man is referenced.

Also the simpson's episode where homer yells "give me your thirty love!" was great.

Flava Dave

Didn't Napoleon Murphy Brock (sax player for Frank Zappa) appear a few times on The Simpsons as Bleeding Gums Murphy?? ???
