Please---to the Zappa family----I am begging you to put the Zappa catalogue back on iTunes. Why would you remove it in the first place? What about Frank's vision for an iTunes-like system? If this is due to some legal battle? I know that Warner Music Group bought Rykodisk recently--whatever the reason. Please, it's wrong that the genius of FZ be restricted to physical mediums.

Anything with a lower case 'i' in the name? Want to re-think that one? iTunes does suck though, I'm happy with my Zappa CDs! :D

Um what's wrong with iTunes? It's cheaper. Digital is the way of the future. Oh and it's kind of hard to find all of his CD's for a reasonable price.

people complain that it ruins the experience of buying a record and that the sound quality is poorer. it sounds fine to me, even if the sound might be mathematically worse, and i still buy cds if it makes more sense to buy a particular cd, but itunes also lets you download individual tracks so you can skip the shitty stuff.

Well there is no shitty stuff where Zappa is concerned. I just like it because I don't have shelf space for CD cases. If the ZFT and WMG won't release the catalogue on iTunes, how about a box set? I mean they've done 'The Complete Stuido Recordings' for Led Zeppelin and the like--so why not FZ? Just put all the remastered albums in one awesome box.

ryko did. with all the remastered cd's in one box (the '95 versions).
apparently, their web-site is under re-construction, so you can't see it there now.
but, anyway, here they are:  ryko

Lossy formats should be way cheaper.
IMO lossless digital is the way of the future.
Except MOFO Deluxe, 200 Motels and CPIII, most of the catalogue is available for a reasonable price in the stores and on eBay/Amazon.

For me, it's fun to be on the hunt for new Zappa albums. I have 10 currently, and I'm always on the prowl. Rawr!

I don't know how many albums I have, however, here's what foobar says:

"Properties (1411 Items)"

Total Size: 15 012 613 514 bytes (15GB)

Duration: 4d 19:53:17.418

Gee, he sure made a lot of music, and I don't even have it all yet!

I don't know why so many people complain about not having certain artists on itunes; Beatles, Zeppelin, Zappa. IF YOU CARE SO MUCH GO TO YOUR MUSIC STORE AND BUY THE ACTUAL CD!!

It's just easy and convenient to grab something on itunes.

Someone might check out a few tracks of Zappa, then decide they like it, and then go and buy the full CD later.

I'm often recommending Franks music to people, and you can sometimes see they're interested enough to check it out....if they could just hop online and get something straight away.

I think the problem is that if people can't get it on Itunes, and they don't want to go out and buy the CD, then they might just grab it from LimeWire instead.

I think ultimately it might be a bit backwards not to just bite the bullet and put at least some of Franks albums on various electronic media stores.

I don't use itunes, but that is a damn good point.

The way I see it... Barry...

If people are buying Zappa songs off iTunes, the royalties are going to the ZFT, which funds more CD releases for me.

So, I agree... PUT ZAPPA BACK ON ITUNES, DAMN IT.

Dude, it was on there originally? How long ago? I would've spend hundreds... do you know how long it too me to find Joe's Garage?

Anyway, to all the people saying "go buy the CD", it's (as already been said) too inconvenient, pricey and hard to buy 'em all.

^You wouldn't have gotten Joe's Garage off of itunes even when it was on there, it was missing like 9 songs. The ZFT needs to just bite the bullet on this issue, the records sounded great to me on itunes. If you know what you're doing you can convert the tracks to the Apple Lossless format after you download them.

Itunes and Compression for me is like taking your favorite painting and painting over 70% of it.. Is it still the same as the artist intended.

Itunes would be mutha fng great if it offerred lossless codecs. I would even take apple lossless which is not considered true exact copy.

Unfortuntely people ( well demos 9-30yrs) have chosen to purchase digitally now, so Zappa should be avail to promote new listeners, but it should never be compressed without offering a lossless too!

I am guessing the reason behind the pull from itunes was copyright and financially driven.

Cd's should look at dvd's sales models (which still sell like hotcakes) to bring people back to buying tangible music. They give 2 dvd deluxe sets with outtakes, bloopers, etc for $15-$20. New cd's with 8-10 songs no bonus cuts are $15 on average.

The record company then goes with MVI.... 48khz rez (slightly improved, *SPAM*. big deal, and some wall paper crap for $22.... geez I wonder why no one buys it.

Sorry for the run-on thoughts, this music business stuff makes me nuts
Andrew

I think converting a lesser compressed version to anything other than its original format.... ie 128K AAC to lossless would be making the quality even worse by introducing artifacts and jitter.

I still don't get why people don't just download the music. (Via .torrent)
I understand you'll much rather have the cd's when you're a true collector (and because it mathematically sounds better, eventhough I don't hear a difference).
I downloaded Franks entire discography, 20GB! W00t!

(I do think i'm gonna piss a couple of people off with that statement ^, I bet i'm disrespecting the ZFT?)

You dumbfuck. it's you ignorant fucks that keep the ZFT from doing shit like releasing Dance Me This. I hope one day your legal bills fuck you in the ass. no lube. and a spiky dildo. fuckface.

I've met many thieves in my time, so I don't really care if you live or die.
At least you admit to being a thief.
