Julie Slick is there, she's doin' something with AB I think. I know she just had a few weeks off from touring with him, so that'd make sense. I've been trying to book her and Marco for one of our shows up here. What is NAMM exactly? Sounds like a festival, Coachella meets Burning Man and where is it held? Is it a So-Cal thang?

It seems pretty elitist, but I know a few people who get there somehow. Not sure if I'd ever get an invite - unless I get making some more axes. Probably a million people hanging around outside...

https://www.namm.org/

from wiki...
Founded in 1901, NAMM stands for the National Association of Music Merchants, although since its inception NAMM has evolved from a national retail association into an international association whose members now include commercial companies, distributors, affiliates and manufacturers.
The NAMM Show is the world's largest trade-only event for the music products industry.[2] It is held every January in Anaheim, California, US at the Anaheim Convention Center, and is one of the two largest music product trade shows in the world. Its European counterpart is the Musik Messe in Frankfurt. The event attracts numerous famous musicians, many of whom are endorsed by exhibitors and come to promote their own signature models and equipment.
NAMM is a trade-only business show catering to domestic and international dealers and distributors. The product exhibits are an integral part of the show, allowing the dealers and distributors to see what's new, negotiate deals and plan their purchasing for the next 6 to 12 months. Only employees and guests of the exhibiting manufacturers and/or NAMM member retailers and distributors are allowed to attend, along with credentialed members of the press. Exhibitors are allotted a specific number of badges based on the square footage of their booth. Retail Members are allowed a certain number of badges based on their full-time employees.

It's only about six miles to the east of me. Last year they had a free outdoor concert with Robbie Kreiger's Jam Kitchen. Arthur Barrow & Tommy Mars were in Robbie's band, but only AB could make the last minute show. They played Chunga's Revenge, Cosmic Debris(lead vocal, AB), new Kreiger jazz tunes and about five Doors songs.

This year I didn't see any cool bands listed to play the outdoor stages, so I'm not going. You need tickets to go inside, I think.

Nice pix from last year's NAMM thing, happening or whatever it's called.
From what I've read you need an invite to get a ticket to get inside. It's an insiders show. Ya gotta be in the biz or know someone who is or something like that...

I wouldn't necessarily want to see anyone playing - depends whos there of course - but just to have the chance to go from one stand to the next and thrash some very expensive axes.

She plays Lakland basses. Like Pete did with ZPZ. Maybe she's in her own booth. I'll look it up.

Unfortunately I can't make it this year but sent some Aguilar , Bergantino , Baer & Epipany cabs out there. Julie Slick and Adrian should be using the rigs I sent them 2 weeks ago.
These are the new Aguilar SL 112's hot off my bench >

It's a great show and well worth the time if you can get in there. 8)

This gig is not about music. It's about selling gear.

^Case in point.

The music business becomes less and less about music and more and more about pushing products every year. There's a point where the sound can't get any better and it's simply about selling gimmicks to consumers/wannabe artists who should be out mowing the lawn instead of fingering their diamond laced fretboards.

Your first statement is about right.

But what's wrong with having trade stands selling guitars at a guitar convention?
Most of the guitars there are not too different to what a lot of guitarists would buy anyhow - fender, gibson, national, etc blah.

I don't get the point about wannabe's mowing lawns though. Do you have to be 'successful' to play / own good gear?
I don't think so.

It a professional trade show/conference/convention/whatever just like any industry has (automobile industry, medical industry, etc.). Of course they want to sell stuff. That's what it's about.
