Alot of my guitarist friends are bothered by it, too. I don't see why. It's not like the people playing the game are thinking they actually have any skill at guitar playing, just as people who play DDR don't actually believe they have any skill at dancing.

On the other hand, it's sorta rock idolatry at it's worst level, allowing people to fulfill shallow desires of becoming their idol. Fuck, I don't know. It does sorta feed into the 'faster is better' way of hearing Guitar...so I guess I don't appreciate it on that level?

What's wrong with a little make-belief!
It is actually very tough to get down these moves. It will vastly improve your eye-hand coordination. The music that is being played gets extra exposure, and you're forced to listen to these songs in another way than what you're used to.

If you don't believe me, try your hand at on-line Super Crazy Guitar Maniac Deluxe 2. Some rock music that I wouldn't listen to normally, but I'm highly enjoying the musical quality of some songs. Not to mention playing an SG and getting the stick to dance. And bothering all the housemates.

After playing it a few times, it has to be something medium playing-wise so they can make it easy or really hard. And it really has nothing to do with actual guitar playing.

All people deserve to know Zappa music, it would be cool to have an FZ song in Guitar Hero. Great publicity for ZFT.

Rock Band is one of my guilty pleasures. I know the whole idea of it is pretty silly, but it is really fun. Plus, there's some really good music on there now. There's a downloadedable Mission of Burma pack, for crying out loud. And my god am I a shitty, shitty drummer.

I think "City of Tiny Lights" would work really well.

Yeah, what he said. I just downloaded the Raconteurs and Jimi Hendrix track packs. I think it would be cool if GH featured FZ like they have featured other rock icons on the last couple of games. Maybe start off with something like "I'm The Slime" or "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow/ Nanook Rubs It", then follow it with an epic, guitar heavy, instrumental song like "Black Napkins", "Zoot Allures" or "Apostrophe". If they can resurrect Jimi, they should be able to handle Zappa!

the guitar hero thing - I just do not get it!!!

the grandson dropped his real guitar for this distorted perversion.

although he did mention duck duck goose from the lather album
would make for a good guitar hero jam.

I played Rock Band for the first time last night. Drunk and stoned. Yeah, I learned that I'm cut out for real instruments, not toys. That is to say that I SUCKED at it. But if I could put a Zappa song on the game (or on Guitar Hero) that would fit the vibe of the playlists they have so far, I would pick "Trying To Grow A Chin". I think it's appropriate.

I think "Flakes" (from the LP Sheik Yerbouti) would be good for Guitar Hero.

they should have one of those battle levels on the new guitar hero (ala Slash & Tom Morello of GHIII) against terry bozzio, or danny carey! that'd be insane

I participated in a battle mode of SingStar last night. Birthday parties plus beer and then there's karaoke that tells you when you suck. Oh well. It was slightly more satisfying than Guitar Hero or Rock Band ever has been for me.

I teach guitar and I thought this game was really lame at first and thought how sad it was that kids wouldn't just pick up a real guitar. Then I had more than one student wanting to learn AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith and a few other songs from the 70s-80s specifically from playing the game. I'm talking 11-13 year old. I now think it's a great way to turn young kids on to some really good guitar players and some real music for a change. Zappa NEEDS to be there, after all he was the best. Need to ease them into it though (not Keep it Greasy). Not the Black Page etc. More like Heavy Duty Judy, Bamboozled by love....I think Zombie Wolf would be a great one.

I played Guitar Hero for the very first time last weekend (GHIII: Legends of Rock). I must admit, it was great fun. I think a multi-instrumental transcription of Echidna's Arf (Of You) would make a wonderful addition to the canon, particularly on Expert level :)
