I thought I would start a thesis of the last 2 years of the mothers. Anything of interest please put here.

The 'German' fellow is Lippman Rau promoter. He could be Herr Lippman, or Mr Rau

If you got any live pictures of Lowell George Playing Rhythm Guitar and Vocals with The Mothers of Invention please post them. I have never seen any. Most are just group shots and they are just posing.

Your statement is a bolt from the blue!

I know he called a tune Black Beauty, but never have I seen FZ with a pre 1969 Les Paul Custom (in black)

He's using a Les Paul Goldtop.

Pictures taken at Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen, October 3, 1968.
The Mothers played two shows - backstage photos taken between shows.

I know he is using a couple of goldtops during this era and this includes during the shows when Lowell George was in the band. But one of those pictures looks like a custom. Maybe it is the lighting in this picture. I am not sure.

Interesting fact about this photo is that, Don Preston's face actually stayed that way for 2 days, after a change of wind direction.

The 'German' fellow is Lippman Rau promoter. He could be Herr Lippman, or Mr Rau

He was known as "Fritz". He was a very colorful character, who promoted many of our shows in Germany. Reportedly he was a communist, but yet he sure seemed like a free market guy to me! He was one of those larger-than-life Bavarian guys with a great sense of humor.

As a side note, he was responsible for saving Herbie Cohen's life, or at least from serious bodily harm, at our famous show in Berlin where we had the riot. The crowds had started reaching up on stage to grab anything they could steal. During one attempt someone threw something that hit Herbie hard. Herbie was a very tough guy. He went berserk, and was about to jump off the stage into the crowd to start punching people, when Fritz came up behing Herbie. Fritz grabbed him in a big bear hug, and lifted him up into the air while Herbie was kicking and screaming and foaming at the mouth. Fritz dragged him back a ways and calmed him down.Herbie could have been a goner...

The gag for the session was that we were supposed to beat the crap out of this car, while it was being filmed and still photoed. I remember seeing the footage years ago, and it was pretty funny. I don't think this was the car that we destroyed. The one we wrecked was probably some discarded car they brought in for that purpose. It was a lot of fun to smack up the car, but you'd be surprised at how hard it is to completely smash up a car with sledge hammers!! The idea was peculiarly French, I thought.
