I believe this show was at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena in the summer of 1968. I'm playing the xylophone in this picture. Larry Fischer may have sung a song or two in that set. But the funniest part was when Elliot Ingber was brought on to sit in with us. Keep in mind that there were probably 20,000 or more in attendance at this huge football stadium, and also that Elliot was known to do a little weed in those days. He walked on stage with his guitar, carrying a tiny little speaker/amplifier. He sat it down and commenced to play. I couldn't even hear it from 20 feet away! The roadies jumped to scramble up some microphones to put in front of his speaker so that the audience could hear it. I don't think Elliot cared one way or the other...

No known photographer, Germany 1968, FZ wearing Leather overcoat that he must have purchased there. I have similar, and a friend of mine has one from the 'Wehrmacht', a Tank Regiment one says he; 'Got Ist Mit Uns' on the Belt buckle. A credit would be most desirable, and a bigger scan off the transparency.

The 1969 Mothers in Birmingham UK. I believe that this concert may have been organised by Mothers Club of Erdington Birmingham, a famous venue where Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Mighty Baby (twice) have played. This concert I believe where 'Weasels ripped my flesh' was recorded.

i remember the shindig pretty well,,
As far as i recall, Frank was at a loose end as ( I believe ) the Mothers
had just disbanded ? and he was really there for the hell of it and to 'loosely'
compere the event, and have a jam with who ever!
We ( the Toes) had by this time, a pretty tight festival set and were well and truly
into it when Frank wandered on!!
to our amazment, he gathered us around him and ( with his back to the crowd!)
suggested to us that we worked on a little idea he'd been toying with !
As the whistles got louder from the bemused crowd(!) after about five minutes
I decided that for the sake of continuity, to crack into a Ben E King up tempo
blues number called Grooving,, that we used to play in the Paris night clubs years before !
there is a live recording of this 'happening" where there is about 5 minutes of me playing
'Bongo' gtr whilst Frank tried to get his guitar fired up!
I'm slightly convinced ,,, that spinal tap was based on this episode !!
Those were definitely the days!
Good luck in your search for footage,, though , I suspect,, it will consist of young, long haired
muso's frowning at their fret boards and wondering what the fuck was going on!

Found in a copy of Uncle Meat, UK Transatlantic. This is a Concert programme, I assume printed in UK before the 6/6/69 Albert Hall.

Was this programme sold elsewhere on that Tour??

I paid £20, and I think the guy assumed it was the same book as the US copy.
I reckon there was no UK book in the standard UK release.

of all the 63 confirmed or likely shows for 1968, 17 have found their way into the tape trading and seeding community. They are all of varying sizes and media and quality of reproduction, as always, but also show a continual evolution in those original Mothers.
The 1968 live material is much more represented in the official catalogue than was 1967, with the fantastic 1993 release Ahead Of Their Time recorded in 1968 and there also are a pair of precious (dare I say it?) beat the boots that show a taste of what those Mothers and Frank could do.: Electric Aunt Jemima and Our Man In Nirvana. Pheeewwwwww!!!!!

I have a first hand account of the Bristol Concert 3rd June 1969, as he wanted to know why he didn't remember see a concert souvenir programme [my theory is that the book was not ready until the Albert Hall concert]:

""Yes, I enjoyed the booklet.(The Uncle Meat UK Programme) I saw them at the Coulston (sic: Colston) Hall
in Bristol with a school party (the young Maths teacher was
into the Mothers. Very few people turned up and they were
scattered throughout the hall. Frank got everyone to move
to the front. We didn't move because we were in the stalls.

Frank then shocked us all by saying the band weren't going
to do any vocals (because they were 'B' grade). The band
then gave a varied and captivating performance.
It is possible the Maths teacher got a booklet with the
tickets, but I didn't see it.""

As there was so few people, did any of them bring a tape recorder?

Oct 1969. The Mothers had been disbanded. They were a little too ahead of their time. Judging by the peculiar calender that US magazine production has; I would not be surprised that this issue hit the news stands before the Mothers of Invention learned of their demise

I am not sure when this photo is, but I believe it's by Jan Persson and claim that its taken in Denmark 1969.

However I think it's earlier, possibly 1968 when the Mothers played Denmark with equipment borrowed from Mick Taylor and John Mayall.

Is FZ wearing the self same clothes seen with Davy Jones in the Monkees film?
