To celebrate the imaginary brand spanking new Zappa.com download service that GZ whips out in the face of those evil Warner backed Ryko people, I ask for your suggestions on this fabulous new product outlet.

I'll begin:

The Rehearsal Series.
A huge collection of archive rehearsal recordings.

The Alternative Collection
Singles of slightly different takes, edits, mixes for the completest.

The Unfinished Works
Time to do something with those hundreds of Synclavier works that FZ mentioned.

The Dialogue Experience
An outlet for all those people behaviour tapes Frank liked to gather.

The Samples Library
I believe this was actually a FZ idea? A library of instrument and otherwise samples collected by FZ for use by other composers/musicians.

Nice starting point as to the imaginary feasibility.

Did you mention FZ BUILD REELS?

There should be a good collection of FZ "Works in Progress" or Completed Build Reels and from reports
One Shot Deal just may be one of those.

Gosh, all that unfinished and dialogue stuff doesn't interest me. My thing would be more concerts. But that's me.

sky's the limit on this.

Lossless for snobs like me... mp3 compressed for those who don't care

It would also cut down on production costs on printing cd's and liner notes + package...

Trendy is going to tell me not to mention other models cause ZFT march to their own model, but Phish has a pretty kick ass live download thing going on. Great archive notes, and variety of formats..

They (ZFT) have a plan.... like Jacob on the show LOST.. how many seasons can we watch before we need to know that plan.... not sure.

That's the spirit! 8)

Just shove a large hose into a hole in the side of the Vault and attach it to a gigantic vacuum cleaner in the sky. Whatever you can suck up is yours.

It's gotta be a giant industrial vacuum cleaner though.

There was a most excellent argument for zappa vault downloads, made recently on the ZPZ New Orleans review page, copied and pasted below:

I talked to Dweezil after the show about a web site I came across recently. The band Phish has a site dedicated to their vault of live soundboard recordings ("livephish"), where fans can hear samples and download tracks and/or entire concerts for a fee, a la iTunes, the difference being that Phish makes the profit! I asked Dweezil if the Zappa Family Trust had ever considered something similar for Frank’s vault. Of course, as he pointed out, there is so much material, so little time.
I’m no vaultmeister, but it would seem to me that there could be some real potential for a win/win here: Eventually, the vault will need to be digitally preserved for posterity, and such a massive undertaking would need to be worth the time and expense. Even if Frank’s vault concerts were made available over such a web site slowly over time, even without ANY mixing or remastering, they would sound a lot better than the ton of audience recorded bootlegs flooding the web these days. Frank’s fans would certainly pay for the improved quality and download reliability. Thus, the preservation of Frank’s recordings could be a source of profit for the family trust, making the effort worth it as they simultaneously “beat the boots” once and for all.

Thoughts, anyone?

There was going to be something in place for something like that. 3 years ago or so. Don't know what happened.
