I am sure that I am not the first person to ask for this. I am talking about the book were it was transcribed by Steve Vai. Is this book ever going to be released to the general public? I know most guitarists won't be able to play the stuff, but it would be cool to have. I know for me it would be a motivation thing something I could look at and think: "damn I suck, I need to go practice". Also I always hear about people complaining that no one can play Frank's music right (which I agree with 100%) so wouldn't the book provide a solid true Frank Zappa music source?

I have this book.
I think I acquired it in the late 1980's/early 1990's.

I also have another one of notated music. It has a picture of FZ with a rose in his mouth on the cover. It contains the notation for 'Music for guitar and Low Budget orchestra', besides others.

I heard Dweezil play his father's music last Halloween in NYC and I don't agree that nobody can play FZ's music right because his son sure as hell did. It's agreed a book like that would be worth having.

Are you sure it's still on there?

I've searched the Scrapbook section and can't find it.

I just realised it's probably on there as a torrent file.

Damn these firewalls!

Does anyone know a site where you can directly download the Frank Zappa Guitar book? I realise it is a pretty big file.

It's been reproduced in a single PDF file, keep searching.

As to the official release, I still have my tattered copy bought in 1987 from the Menlo Park Mall from some super shitty record store (yep, even shitty record stores had copies of it back then). I think I paid $19. which was a freakin' fortune to me back then.

Anyway, if they re-release this one, it'd be great if it was coil-bound, or some type of better binding than the original had, because that binding sucked ass and fell apart way too easily.

I remember seeing a copy of the Frank Zappa guitar book in a music store in London ages ago. I recall seeing the notation and being totally put off, I can't read music very well and would have to sit down and figure all the notes out and it would take some time. If you can sight read then this book would be perfect!

Also, I asked Andy Aledort on the guitarworld.com forums if there was any chance of him transcribing more Zappa books and there isnt.....

Not sure about you guys, but I think a Joe's Garage book would be very cool!

I have the book and I TOO, don't read music very well
(yep .... I'm a guitarist ... !)
I sometimes try to follow the score's with the tunes, just for fun.
Steve Vai has to be commended, transcribing Zappa's guitar
improvisational compositions accurately is a task very few people
could have accomplished.

I tend to just copy phrases, not whole solo's.

I learn more

I had this book and sold it on ebay for financial reasons(what other reason could there be for having to sell any Frank Zappa). To this day, I still bitch slap myself for selling it, I havn't seen it since but ebay is a great source to check for it. Also you can try Alibris, it sometimes pops up there.

Good luck.
