Vielen Dank, mein Herr!

Do you know if they have the texts as written by Zappa, by the way? I have two versions of the Apostrophe (') lyrics, from the inserts of the UK LP and the Japanese one, and they are clearly different. The UK insert has the same idiosyncratic spellings as on Overnite Sensation, while the language in the Japanese insert is more normalized (and less complete), which suggests that it was trancribed by someone else.

Any idea if those German books are transcriptions or from Zappa's own manuscripts?

Hi!

The first one (Corrected Copy) has handwritten corrections that he added to the first edtiton. They made this facsimile edition from then on. So is as original as possible. The second one (Zonx) was at least approved by Frank I think and contains lyrics from unreleased material also. Both books have also translations into German.

The lyrics themselves got a pretty accurate reproduction treatment by the 2001 folks, but everyone loves them and knew they were getting it right anyway....
A few things got omitted for contractual reasons (Joe's Garage, I think) and for whatever reason (Lumpy Gravy Dialog, 200 Motels Finale, if I remember it correctly)

'Plastic People' is a flimsy little softcover affair (later editions), ZONX a solid hardcover with ribbon marker

Absolutely true. 'Dragon Master', 'New World Order', 'These Are the 90s', etc.
Still, the closest thing for Zappa lyrics is this --

It contains the songs only.

Instead of completing and correcting everything after Frank made his remarks they decided to leave it that way.

BTW, both books have been reprinted several times. The first book once was a hardcover which I had to replace at one point because it had fallen apart. My later paperback copy is the 30th(!) edition and was printed in 1995. The book was first published in 1977.

This copy still contains a reproduction of a small sheet of paper from Frank's notebook whereon he had scribbled his suggestion for a title: "Da Werdz"

Beautifully rendered, indeed -- Frank striking out 'Reseda?' in 'Where you been livin'....' and replacing it with 'Pforzheim?' being sort of a highlight, too --

Yeah. That being the only correction he made in the german translation ;-).

Does the ZONX book have the complete lyrics for the Broadway the Hard Way cd? - The current print from Ryko has by a mistake the inside of Ahead of their Time instead of the the Broadway lyrics, so this is an issue for those of us who were late in getting the cd of that album...

What about the libretto for Thing-Fish? ( I only have the cassette.)

I had the first edition without corrections and the second with corrections both as hardcover. They had fallen apart and disappeared into eternity many years ago. Now I only have the later paperback edition. Every household should have one at least!
