I was there too and it was awesome !!!
Adrian Belew looked as happy as a kid in a candy store from time to time out on stage...

And when he and the Metropole Orchestra played King Crimson's ''Frame By Frame'' as an encore i could have happily died and gone to heaven afterwards

Adrian himself has this to share:

Quote:
Monday, February 28, 2011
Speechless!!!
I have no words to aptly describe last night's world premiere
performance of e with the metropole orkest at paradiso...

phenomenal? powerful? overwhelming?
those terms don't even come close to describing it.
the audience was stunned, as was I.

following the closing dynamic chord of e
there was a split second of shared amazement
followed by a huge surge of energy screamingshoutingwhistling
which nearly lifted the paradiso off its foundation.

pardon my french but the orchestra was fucking phenomenal!!
the sound was hugely powerful
and utterly delicate
aggressive and chaotic
and perfectly precise.

emotionally I was so overwhelmed
more than once I nearly burst into tears.
joyful tears, the best kind.

so perhaps those words are fitting.

I know this much: it was unlike anything
I have ever experienced before.
unbelievable.

today, our day off between performing
and 5 days of mixing
I'm walking on air through the streets of amsterdam,
still in shock.

I can't wait to share this with those of you
who weren't able to be there.

So FZ gets only a fire extinguisher? Although it seems kind of apt in a way.

Irrefutable proof that Frank Zappa Phase 2: The Big Note was released in 2002.

Schenkel's always been a great guy. I found his adress in the 1980 tour book, and wrote to get a catalog and get on the mailing list. As a result I have a heap of junk mail sent to "Cal Schenkel" and many other more interesting things, among them large photocopies of the sketches for the Grand Wazoo and One Size Fits All cover designs. Those sketches came with my copy of Cal Schenkel magazine no. 1. He also sent out free art in those days, for those of us who had to wait a while before his Ralf t-shirts were finished. "Sorry, T-shirt sufferers," he wrote. As I said - alway a great guy!

Great shot, Unica! Is that Motorhead blowing the harmonica? The year would be 1969, judging from Frank's pants.

I was thinking of Jimmy too, and I guess he might have been that slim at that time. My first thought was Motorhead, because of the build, but you're right - the eyes and nose suggest Jimmy.

How do I date my overalls? By the dust and crumbs in the pockets  No seriously, because those overalls look like the ones Frank was wearing for the inner gatefold pictures of both Hot Rats and Burnt Weeny Sandwich, as well as the BWS poster insert. He might be wearing them on the John Williams shot used for the One Shot Deal also, but that's harder to tell, because of the graphics.

Nah, that's Motorhead alright. And he isn't blowing the harmonica, I believe he is 'snorking'.

Well its Motorhead not JCB. As for the date it is either 1968 or early part of '69 as the Les Paul has not been butchered up ..yet..yet I tremble when I say this but I have an eye witness account that FZ had two Les Paul goldtops because he broke a string or the main instrument went kaput at the RFH necessitating a change over.

It is a great photo by the way.
