I'd really love to see the scores to 'Bob In Dacron/Sad Jane' or 'Pedro's Dowry'... they are some of my favorite Zappa pieces. Ooh, ooh! Also G-Spot, Get Whitey, Outrage at Valdez...basically all of them.

I'd just really love to see a student edition type deal or something like that. I'd love to study his stuff.

I heard something like this used to be sold at Barfko. What was it like? How much did it cost? WILL IT BE COMING BACK!?!?!?!?!

Sometimes I sit & wonder what "Amnerika" of CP3, written down in sheet music, could POSSIBLY look like. I mean, /seriously./

I bought the score of Be Bop Tango years back. Actually it wasn't a score at all. It was a reduction, Melody on one line, accompaniment on two (like a piano with solo instrument.) It was over-priced and of poor quality, but hey, there was the melody for Be Bop Tango, all written out! Actually very cool, and I did learn to play in on the trumpet.

Zappa's orchestral scores are mostly rental material. But if you go to the MM link on this site, you'll find the e-mail address of Munchkin Music (munchkinmusic@zappa.com). You could write your question to them.

Try the following web site. This guy has a few arrangements of Zappa for percussion ensembles. Ask him if he'll give you a discounted price for the conductor's score without parts. I got one for Strictly Genteel this way. They've got a particular slant on percussion but the content is all there. He has an mp3 of a performance of his Regyptian Strut arrangement which gives you an idea of the quality of his arrangements.

I totally agree.
I understand that this piece involved 220 tracks. Could you imagine such a thing?
I always found this piece to be one of such emotion from Frank.
It has to be one of my favorite, if not my favorite, of all of Frank's work.
It's such an amazingly densely emotional piece of sculptered air that I have ever heard.

My perception was one of despair.

I wonder if Frank had to buy Varese's pieces? Hey, his family trust has plenty of money, just let people see it a play it....because we love it!

No sheet music or covers for you!

Perhaps I am the only one who finds it odd how protective all this seems. I guess FZ really was a conservative (har har)

I ordered these back in '90 or '91...still have TDK and JDPH, but lost TBP somewhere along the way

Craig! How goes it ma man?
A total moderated forum? Isn't that kind of paradoxical since this is a Zappa conscious based forum?

There goes the neighborhood!

Zappa went through hell to get these all copied out and then even played, shit, I'd want as much as I could get for it if I was him.

What I don't understand is this?

Quote:
MS 020 Naval Aviation in Art: Chamber Ensemble Score $52.00

That is nearly $1.25 a second.

I just got back into using Cubase and was looking for Zappa midifiles

I've got heaps of 'em that I collected years ago...but they seemed to have disappeared off the net...there's not much around..

Did the ZFT get rid of a lot from the net?

I just polished up a version of 'Twenty Small Cigars' with new samples...
it came up great...it's the version with a bit of Calvin inserted into it

I sure would like a midifile of 'Outrage at Valdez' though....heh

Peace, mutronboy

I've wondered the same thing lately.

Also, I've got to say the prices of some of these Barko-Swill scores are bordering on ridiculous. I understand that Zappa probably paid a lot of money to get them copied and such, but seeing as how easy it is to copy paper now-a-days, why such a price??

I don't mean to complain, I've been known to pay up to $60 AUS for import CD's such as Joe's Garage, and the only reason I've finally forked the money out was because I knew it would most likely go into funding the next ZFT CD release. It's just that I would honestly want to buy every single one of these scores if they weren't so expensive.

I also believe if Frank Zappa's music was just a bit more available to the public, that it would work in the favour of the ZFT by possibly getting his name out there and getting him some of the recognition he deserves for this awesome music. Which eventually means... more Zappa for US!

Dupree's Paradise was played in Oslo in October, and I got a copy of the sheet that shows how the orchestra will sit when they are playing this piece ^^,
Frank thought of everything, you know...

Do you mean the seating arrangement or "back straight, chin up"?
