ZpZ Has a new singer. His name is Ben.He's real good.
This was all I could glean out of the ZpZ '09 set-list thread. From the first show in Germany.
Anyone got anymore info?

A forum member (yawy-with only 1 post) from where ever, is saying on the ZPZ tour dates that he saw the
world premier of ZPZs new singer! On 5/16/09 and posted in the "review show",(only if you were there) This person kept calling him Ben.
Ben who?
Did anyone else read that or any of our German friends know if this is true?

If you check ZPZ blog, the last post from DZ says "Ladies and Gentlemen allow us to introduce you to Ben Thomas, our new lead singer."
This is where the information comes from.
By the way, I'm going to the Paris show tonite. Can't wait to see and hear

Yeah, I admit it. I was poking you in the eye with a pointed stick.
Actually, there are 2 or 3 threads on the forum about Ben Thomas, including a post from a person who has performed with him in the past.

Thanks jpd Just wondering if ZPZ has a new singer? Is his name (Ben Thomas)? Is he ZPZ official
"new guy"? Where is he from and who did he play with before?
But most of all, how's he sound with ZPZ and FZs music?

This ones for Roy Estrada where ever he is! Wanna wanna en-enema! FZ

To capt kirk and others,

Here is a quick review for the Paris show last night. Have a look at the official review board for details from others. I don't know why I can't login and post in this review board. That's why I'm posting here. Anyway, the first set list posted so far by someone else is partially wrong, a couple of songs (namely Black Napkins and Gas station) are listed that were never played last night, unless I fell asleep. The thing is I can't remember myself the exact set list. There were too many songs and I didn't bother writing them down in the dark. It was sure a pretty long show, altogether about 3 hours with a 15mn intermission. The band performed Banboozled by love and it was a great part for the new lead singer Ben Thomas who seems more at ease with low-pitch voices. City of tiny lights was not an easy part for him. I would say that he's doing pretty well with what used to be Ike Willis and/or Nappy's parts, but not so well with Ray White higher-pitch parts.

The sound was pretty loud, last song Willy the Pimp was a killer, lots of energy in it. Ben Thomas performed this one in the Beefheart way, maybe with some sort of voice effects or distortion, but I'm not sure.

So, altogether a great time, a hard core band that is still performing at its top, with a new, very promising lead singer who did a hard job learning all these songs in a so short time. Obviously he couln't learn all of them and Sheila was a great backup. That girl is incredible. Not only does she play sax, flute, keyboards, etc. but she now also is partially a lead singer for the band. I hope she never quits.

Excuse my french

Grenouille

sweet!
merci Grenouille!!

I saw a photo on a platform wall for an ad with zpz, george benson and lynyrd skynnyrd for this mai-18 show.
The photo made me really sad to see.

Glad to hear the show hit the mark for you!

oh well, here's another post. Soon I'll get to 10 and be promoted to a real human-no spammer user. I did open a topic yesterday when I registered, otherwise I wouldn't be able to post right here. But still, I cannot post in the ZPZ review section. Never mind.

To answer your question, no other band playing last night in this venue. May be they were playing on the same day in some other place in Paris? Don't know about that.

Here is my own personal set list as I recall it, based on the set list posted by some other guy out there in the review board. The order may be wrong and this may be incomplete.

- Apostrophe (ya know the famous Bass solo)
- Magic fingers (the 200-motel style, a little faster maybe)
- City of tiny lights
- Purple lagoon (only the intro, not the Approximate part, but great stuff, I like it)
- Inca Roads (yeh they did it!)
- Montana (including the complex part at the end performed by Sheila, great job!)
- Village of the Sun
- Echidna's Arf (Of You)
- Don't You Ever Wash That Thing? (with sax solo from Sheila in place of the Trombone solo)
- Dirty love
- I'm the Slime
- Black page 1 (drums and perscussion part)
- Black page 2 (easy teenage version and not so easy to play, as stated by Dweez who unfortunately fucked up a little on some parts; being an amateur guitarist myself, I don't blame him, that melody would scare the shit out of me if I had to play it on stage)
- Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up
- Bamboozled by Love
- Chunga's revenge (with improvised part and people from the audience dancing on stage by request of DZ)
- Outside now (part of it, not sure about this)
- More Trouble Every Day
- Peaches
- Zombie Woof
- Willie the Pimp

Again, this is an unordered list. Sorry if it's wrong. Hope someone with a better memory or a notepad and a pen will post a proper list.

Frogouille

Hi there,

Thanks to Zut_Bof for the tip about opening another account in ZPZ review forum, I'll do it next time. If you go to this review topic (http://www.zappa.com/reviewboard/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=219) you'll find an accurate set list posted by someone else who obviously had a notepad and a pen. My own set list was fairly correct, only the order was wrong and I forgot to mention "Cosmik Debris".

Talk to you later maybe

as i said before i had the chance to listen to ben thomas at the frankfurt show last weekend.
first at all no one ever can replace frank or the real zappa experience  but ben fits prefectly in the current zpz project, his voice sounds pretty bluesy and he seems to be a fun guy + he has way more stage presence than dweezil. nothing against dweezil, i really like the way he plays his guitar but he has zero stage presence

Well, look at the bright side. Maybe Ben will attract a large female element to the shows. Only then will the average Zappa fan finally get to talk to a real, live girl.

Bill Wyman and "Spruce" Kulick have more stage presence than DZ.
