I have heard rumour that..

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.fan. ... 7c9a?hl=en

Ryko are not printing up FZ anymore.

Their website http://www.rykodisc.com/home/ seems to be devoid of anything relevant.

I wonder if the deal that FZ signed has finished.

I had always heard that the ZFT sold those albums to Ryko without any expiration date on the deal. This would have actually been a fairly unique deal for Ryko considering how brief of stints artists' catalogs tend to have on their label (i.e. Bowie, Hendrix, Devo, etc.)

Birmingham USA eh? What's it like in Birmingham. Have they built a statue to Sun Ra in No man's land yet?

If you search, you can bring up his CDs, but when you click one, there's no picture or anything. (Unless they have a video codec I don't have)

I was wondering about that too. The Ryko website hasn't listed anything Zappa in a long time. They used to have a whole link devoted to FZ.

I'm the "Bill" in that a.f.f-z thread.
There is also no news about it here -
http://www.shorefire.com/clients/zappa/

IIRC, the press releases in 1995 did not mention that Ryko had only been leased the rights to the master tapes for a specific time; but a press release is much different than a contract. I would find it very amusing if there were a clause in the contract that stated if Warner Brothers ever acquired Rykodisc that the FZ masters would revert to the Zappa Family Trust. :)

This is an interesting development. Just about every release seems to have been allowed to go out of print. My guess is that Gail cut a deal and they will be re-released with bonus cuts.

Does this mean we have a 70-disc remastered box set on the way, along with Zappa Rock Band? That would rule.

Is there any evidence Gail has a cut a deal? Looking at the way how the industry is disintegrating, contracting, closing down, shops going out of business, new outlets needed - different ways of distribution without the Mail so you can hold it as an artifact - then perhaps a deal with effectively Warner Brothers, before they get swallowed up by Universal is the way to go.

The only Record shops I go into in the UK are second hand ones - the majors have almost all closed down.

The Zappa rock band? Who are they??

But there's no need for Ryko to carry anything "Zappa" when they have the best of what the 21st century has to offer. Just look at what they're pushing up front!

Not to steal another thread but, any idea if these will be the original mix or the bass and drum overdub mix?

Hey, Doug, that article was probably posted in 1998, because it says that it's on the occasion of Ryko's 15th anniversary. So we're still left wondering. I think this gap in Ryko Zappa is to do with the Warner Brothers acquisition. Who knows what the bastards are up to?

Maybe, but the weekly new-release newsletter I copied it from came yesterday, so they must be expecting something.

That web page does mention Wazoo and Dub Room Special, so it's not as clear it seems.

And they say "remastered" as well. But at rock bottom prices. I don't believe it.

edit: Ruben is not listed...which still gives me hope for the ZFT version.

The 15th is probably a typo seeing as how it mentions albums released recently.

They probably had a low budget for marketing this and just dusted off an old page.
