I've just finished to read a new and very interesting book by german author Ingo Meyer about FZ. Although the book focus' on his music generally there're also some trivial facts in it.

I knew that FZ was a strict employer. But I didn't know that his band members had to submit a medical certificate in case of illness.

Can this be true ?

He probably jus wanted to write songs about their medical conditions.

That is so one can file a Workmans Compensation insurance claim. Musician still gets paid and the insurance company pays Frank.

That's reasonable, but quite unromantic for a rockin' teenage combo. But of course, Frank was different. Though Ronny's theory isn't odd as well.

Nah, it's the way any bizness is run. There is no choice. One is forced to buy/pay for workman's comp in the USA.

Mark Volman had chronic insomnia due to worrying about his penis dimension.

Oh, right, I think I read about that in Rolling Stone.

Then it must be true.

Well, I didn't actually. So the inverse must be...false?

Seems to me there's a difference between calling in sick, for which most full-time employers offer "sick days", and a job-related injury, for which the employer carries workers comp insurance. If it's a case of a bandmember wanting to miss rehearsal because they have the flu, or even just a cold, to me the "doctor's note" seems a bit harsh. Suggests that there were probably band members who abused sick days, so Frank had to introduce a more strict policy. If that's the case, well that's business, as brainpang says (hi there bp, hi everybody, long time!)

I'm not sure of this , but I would expect that if you were traveling to a different country , and had some type of medical problem such as Hepititus C , Swine flu or AIDS , you could be a potential problem for the one that brought you across the border .

Maybe an employer like Frank ?

Or maybe his insurance company required this ?
What if Frank wasn't the one pulled into an orchestra pit , but another member of the traveling troupe ?

Or maybe as stated above , a vehicle for song ideas ...my balls feel like a pair or morachas

Before touring, all members of most bands have to go to the Dentist for a check up....and a little cleening for the photo-ops!

Band members, including FZ, had to perform while ill often. Happens to everyone on tour. For more check the "Diseases Of The Band" track on YCDTOSA 1.

FZ did cancel a show at the Palladium in fall 80 due to illness, and some dates on the Europe 82 tour too.

Yes, there is that other cut where Ray White was "choking on tear gas" throughout the song, and I couldn't hear it either.
