Guitarists of all-time. Think it's a significant jump since the last time they did one of these lists. Pretty good list overall. Much better than the last greatest guitarists list. They assembled a great panel of judges this time as well. 8) Here's FZ's writeup:

What a joke!
I do not trust this list because Clapton is only #2.
He is not a guitarist, He is God.
Anyway Chuck Norris should be #1.

I hate these lists they are a waste of time. I bet Jan Akkerman is not on the list, if I win my bet then why should I pay attention to a fetid rag like Rolling Stone who are intellectually bankrupt and have nothing to say.

Is there a story behind that?

Read a number of negative slays towards FZ by him, the most famous one is when he said "Zappa's music is the Birdie song for intellectuals". Caused by the fact he used to like Zappa, but FZ made the mistake of not recognizing him which is why Akkerman trashes him whenever an interviewer wants to let him talk again. There aren't many.

That would make him an asshole in my book.

But definitely a great player.

Well, at least he is an alive and functioning asshole who managed to take better care of his health/had better genes.

He is an incredible player. Better than most on the latest arsewipe from the U.S.A.

I like to call him Jan STakkerman

However, some credit has to go to Jan for remarks such as this one:
Quote:
About Frank Zappa and his influence on the creation of Akkerman the guitarist:

Zappa was one of the leading avant-garde guitarists in the course of the sixties and the seventies, and his creation has run all through my life. Frank sometimes played only one chord, but he did it with such expressive delivery and unusual coloring that it just could not have been compared to anything. I also attempted to play in that manner, though with my own vision of music. As an example, Hocus Pocus was written under the influence of Zappa. Although I can't say he exerted much influence upon the formation of my own style of playing, I have always been greatly impressed at his mastery. Once I met him, in London in 1969. Frank came, and we jammed. All of his accompanying musicians were Europeans. Then Zappa said me: "You greatly play guitar and you have your own image as a musician. I would even invite you to play in my band." (Jan laughs)

http://www.progressor.net/interview/jan_akkerman.html

And his best quote is his response to when he was asked for some sort of concert (promoted by one of Holland's biggest beer brands) where famous Dutch artists perform covers of some of their favorite songs/artists.

The organisation suggested for Jan to play stuff like Hendrix and Clapton.
Jan's reply was: ''I could play that stuff in my sleep, with my dick. I suggested Zappa instead, but they (the organisation) thought it would be to difficult...''

I heard the story of Jan meeting FZ, and the tentative offer from FZ..I didn't realise that they jammed. If it was '69 then FZ was here (in UK) for the Mothers concerts in May/June, but it could be later in the Speakeasy when he came over in Oct and November with Beefheart as Road manager and for Straight business.

Hocus Pocus is a classic, I am a little disturbed that he would choose to trash one of the musicians that inspired him, but he seems to credit Zappa also... :smoke:

I have seen Jans hands. He has big hands. Besides he has no real interest in doing Hendrix. He bought a Langaster g'tar from New Zealand wood when there was something Hendrix on.

Well, perhaps you should try playing Hendrix derivative material in your sleep - with your dick and then not talk about it. Jan is pure entertainment on and off stage.

What facts you amusing little creature? There are no facts, just an infantile penis measuring competition, or chimpetition in your case, this measuring contest is about as valid as the Rolling Stone list which I regard as utter arsewipe.

Let me try and translate:

You're about to step out of the full of shit box into the being boring and full of shit box. Just because you don't like O (????) stated that it's impossible for him to do a JH.

No, (shakes head) Still doesn't make any sense. Perhaps English is your 2nd language. Try writing it in Welsh.
