I have personal experience. A hobby isn't worth it.

Take away the gun, and he'd just look up "homemade bombs" on the internet. There's any number of ways to turn household items into a bomb. 154 bullets in 5 minutes? How about parking a car bomb, and bringing down the whole building in a couple of seconds?
Shoot a baby in a carriage? He was close enough to just reach out and shove a ballpoint pen through the baby's eye if he wanted.
A gun ban is just a cosmetic action to make people feel better about "doing something". It won't accomplish anything except a change in method, and will instead give people a false sense of security.
A knife to the throat is no different to a gun in the face.
Focus on cause, not the method, if you want to make a difference.

As a marketing and sales strategy, fear and paranoia has been used to move product for as long as there have been bartering and trading.

If violent person "a" uses his fists, violent person "b" will use a stick. Unsatisfied with fists, violent person "a" will then graduate to rocks and/or bigger sticks. In retaliation, violent person "b" will move up to pointed sticks that you can throw. Not to be outdone, violent person "a" will graduate to sticks with points and/or rocks that can be launched....and so on and so forth.

The fear and paranoia arguments are just more excuses.


Ballpoint pens, rocks or sticks weren't used in Columbine, Sandyhook or Aurora btw.

The focus always has been, and always will be based on fear, paranoia and greed.

Exactly my point. The excuse of fear of guns being used for explaining away violent crime solves nothing. The violent person remains violent. Since you don't personally know, or have met, any of the killers to which you refer, there is no way you can reasonably say that if there were no guns, the rampage would have been less destructive. It could have been less... it could have been greater. But there is no way you can say it wouldn't have happened.

Arm a violent person with a knife, they will be unable to kill a dozen people and injure an additional 70 in a crowded movie theatre in under 5 minutes.

Anybody can make a presumption that if you take away guns from violent people, they "could" use a car bomb. For every car bomb that has been successfully used to kill or injure large crowds of people...I can think of two high profile instances, both carried out by organized terrorists working in groups...there are tens of millions of gun related deaths.

Most gun supporters use if's, and's, but's, could's, would's to make their case in support, but almost never want to disguss did's, have's.


As far as cause versus method, there isn't single human being on the planet, let alone gun owner, who are absolutely 100% immune to lapses in judgment and/or freak accidents beyond their control, regardless of how extensive your training and experiences are. Even trained professionals fuck up. It only takes one. Hell, we even had a vice president who fucked up and shot a fellow hunter in the face, and he was surrounded by some of the most highly trained specialists in the world.


There's no more excuses, and this issue is deadly serious.

Ending legal slavery was once considered logistically impossible, but eventually it was stopped. It took a Civil War for the right thing to be done.

If laws are passed to ban certain types of guns, high capacity clips and mandatory background checks, it won't be an overnight process.

An example of the slowness of some progress can be seen in the opening statement of the Declaration of Independence..."We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed...." 237 years later, most of us, at least those who live in a world of reality know that there's still inequality between women and minorities as compared to caucasian men.

The only thing blocking the opening line from the U.S.D.O.I. from being a full reality is the political party thats dominated by white caucasian males.

Ridding our society of tools of death, and the merchants who profit from them, will be an easier and more expediant process than convincing people who have many generations of racist, homophobic attittudes and the will to be hold their dominion over all others that they deem as "lesser" people.

Their unwillingness to even budge on something as elementary as mandatory background checks on all purchases and tranfers speaks volumes at the mentality that normal people recognise as obvious.

Studies show that 2 out of every 3 hate crimes go unreportedaccording to Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics.

It's a safe assumption that tens of millions of gun related crimes is on the conservative estimate side.

There would be no need to go on door to door searches or a civil war. Once the bans are in place, the guns will dry up, because ammo won't be available to publicly purchase. There would be several other steps like offering amnesty for turning in assault weapons within a designated time frame. The only people who would be subject for searches are those who are registered owners of assault weapons. The unregistered ones will turn up over time, and figuring that ammo would be unavailable for those types of guns, the threat will be minimal.

Something has to be done. No more excuses.

This old cliche' that if a killer didn't have access to high-powered he'd simply kill with a bomb or car, etc. is just bullshit speculation. Show your evidence or STFU. The fact is that statics prove that making it more difficult to access weapons decreases the rates of murder, accidental death and suicide. Until you can disprove that with evidence as opposed to ideology, you can fuck off in whichever direction you choose.

ya that worked real good for prohibition and crime spiraled, same with drugs. Where there's a will there's a black market and anyone resourceful can make ammo no problem, give me a lathe, a spin caster, a drill press and a buffing will and I could produce ammo in less than a week from scratch, I did a stint in manufacturing and some people got real skills.

A gun well cared for can last indefinitely, logistical impossibility... :smoke:

December 11, 2012
22-year-old Jacob Roberts killed two and injured one before killing himself at a Portland-area shopping mall, which was crowded with thousands of holiday shoppers. The injured victim was a 15-year-old girl, to whom Roberts had no relation.

November 6, 2012
Lawrence Jones, a 42-year-old employee of a Fresno, CA – area chicken processing plant opened fire at his workplace, killing two and injuring two others before killing himself. Jones had a long criminal history and was on parole at the time of his death. Later reports indicated that he had been diagnosed with ‘explosive disorder.’

Radcliffe Haughton shot and killed his estranged wife Zina Haughton and two other women, wounding four others before killing himself, at the salon where she worked. This order prohibited Haughton from owning any firearms, yet two days after it was approved, Haughton illegally purchased a .40-caliber semiautomatic weapon, which he used to kill three people and himself.

Three women were killed and one was wounded at a beauty salon by gunman Bradford Baumet, who later killed himself at another location. Police say he was served with a domestic violence injunction October 9, 2012, and had been scheduled to appear in court the day of the shooting.

A still-unidentified shooter opened fire on a group of young men gathered behind a Compton apartment building, killing one and injuring two others. The gunman fled on foot, and police say the shooting appeared to be gang-related.

August 31, 2012
23-year-old Terence Tyler shot and killed two coworkers at a Pathmark grocery store, early in the morning before the store opened. The victims were 18 and 24 years old. Tyler used an assault rifle similar to an AK-47 and killed himself with a handgun. He was a former Marine, and police say he might have had a history of depression and mental illness.

Two police deputies were killed and two were wounded in a shootout in a suburb of New Orleans between police and suspects with ties to violent anarchists. The shooters were among seven “sovereign citizens” arrested, known to the FBI for their suspicious activity and radical ideologies. The group of suspects had been previously monitored, and a stockpile of weapons was found in their residences.

A 30-minute shootout near the Texas A&M University campus resulted in the deaths of a police constable, a bystander, the shooter, and the injury of four others. Twelve people were killed and 58 were injured in Aurora, Colorado during a sold-out midnight premier of the new Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises" when 24-year-old James Holmes unloaded four weapons' full of ammunition into the unsuspecting crowd. He detonated multiple smoke bombs, and then began firing at viewers in the sold-out auditorium, Ten members of "The Dark Knight Rises" audience were killed in theater, while two others died later at area hospitals. Numerous patrons were in critical condition at six local hospitals, the Aurora police said.

A gunman stood outside of a crowded downtown bar and opened fire from two different positions early Tuesday, sending patrons running or crawling for cover. At least 17 people were hurt. Nathan Van Wilkins, 44, surrendered about 10 hours after the shooting near the University of Alabama campus, police said. Authorities believe one of the bar patrons was a target of the rampage and that it was connected to an earlier shooting at a home.

Norcross police on Thursday identified the gunman as the 59-year-old Paek, and the victims as Byong Ok Kang, 64; Kum Hi Song, 61; Kum Sook Kim, 57, and Tae Yol Kim, 55. Surveillance camera footage shows Paek walking into the business and talking to one of the victims before shots were fired, police said. Paek is accused of killing his two sisters and their husbands before turning the gun on himself.
