Check out Mike Keneally on my buddy Dean Delray's podcast LET THERE BE TALK. Also available on iTunes. It's a really great interview.

So far he's had DZ, Josh Freese and Scott Thunes on as well. Check them out too. Joe Travers with hopefully be next.

Mike Keneally is a freaking genius and it's a shame that that a man with that much talent is not more widely known.

What's with the idiotic comments lapsed maps? Why, a mental case indeed.

He does very well for himself being part of Joe Satriani's band for the last few years

I can't make it to Cambria, but I need to see Mike play when he's gigging in LA.

I'm guessing LM doesn't have anything against Keneally but was just proffering up a "jaypfunk-like response" in the interest of comedy. Whether you think it was funny or not is another matter. Again, just my guess. You'd have to ask LM to be sure. Then again, he might say something else that has you scratching your head. That's just the way LM rolls, I suspect.

I agree. Thanks for pointing it out. The one he did with Thunes was great too. I'll check out the ones with Dweezil and Josh Freese as well.

Dean said he's playing at a comedy club in Sacramento (my part of the world) this weekend. Might be worth checking out.

Seen Mike at a local bar a few years back just as I was getting into Zappa. He played a bit of Zappa material that night. Great musician but really should have been doing a better gig. The place is called RIFFS BAR and its a tiny little venue that usually just has local bands playing.

There's footage on YT somewhere.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), that's the way it is with Mike. I saw the Mike Keneally Band (with the Travis Larson Band opening) in a music store in a rural area near Red Bluff, CA in 2011. There were maybe 20 people in the audience and I was practically sitting in Mike's lap.

That's a damn shame. He should be going out on big tours with Vai/Satriani much more. I dunno. Do some time with ZPZ at least.

Well, he does go out on big tours with those guys as a sideman but I don't think that's what you mean. A big European tour with Satriani gets started in September which will take him through the rest of the year and I imagine a North American tour in 2016.
