wow!
you'd think with years thinking about it, I'd have my list ready. But there are so many possibilities :)

Uncle Meat with rehearsal bonum? and heard that 200 Motels was in the works.
the EM stuff could be a real gas.
I've always been surprised there wasn't an '88 band dvd, big, lush and surround!
w Beefheart in '75 or the Grand Wazoo?
I sure'd 2nd slime's requests, especially the '82 band.

but besides the big 4 (Roxy, 200, UM, EM) in MY heart of hearts
rehearsal sets with FZ leading the bands into uncharted territory the way he would direct with his idiosyncratic method.
always fascinating to see those litle bits of him leading the band to match the framed dots on the page.

wonderful to hear from ya!

My most awaited ones, I ignore if these are in the Vault or elsewhere:
  • The Yellow Shark
  • Beat Club 1968-10-06
  • 200 Motels

I'd like to see any/all of the unreleased live concert footage from the 70's. I'd also like to see everything that was previously available on vhs to be re-released on dvd because I've never seen a Zappa vhs in my life (and I probably never will).

Thanks for asking!

I'd like a comp of Frank's short works:
Burnt Weeny Sandwich
The "peaches" film
The art film he projected at Mt. St. Mary's.
G-Spot Tornado
a few rare surprises
and some live band material to keep the fans happy.

and

The Bruce Bickford film ought to be preserved on DVD

Anything from the '60s, other than The Beat Club, which is in heavy circulation.

Include a 1975 performance of Swallow My Pride, as a bonus feature.

Hi Gail,

Is there a shortlist of possible contenders?

Realistically, many - myself included - would like to see either something that hasn't escaped the vault (probably time-consuming and/or expensive to prepare) or else something already circulating in dubious quality which has been/can be spiffed up.

(Two cents, keep the receipt). :)

Id like to see some of the stuff Frank eluded to in the YCDTOSA CD's. I remember him saying there was video for a lot of those songs from that collection. Not sure if that's true or not but Id love to see a compilation of something like that. Id also love to see the Best Band you never heard and Broadway the Hardway era bands if anything from those tours exists.

Anounced footage that appeared on VIDEO FROM HELL

'YOU CAN'T DO THAT ON STAGE ANYMORE'--which will be released after the multi-CD package, 'I NEED YOUR LOVE'--the homespun philosophy of Al Malkin, and 'AN AMERICAN DISSIDENT'--the homespun philosophy of Frank Zappa

and maybe but also:

Liner notes THE LOST EPISODES:
It took place in 1963 at, of all pastoral places, lovely Mount St. Mary's College, a private Catholic institution perched in the lush Santa Monica Mountains above West Los Angeles. (...) The program included a piece called "Opus 5," aleatoric works that required some improvisation, a piece for orchestra and taped electronic music, with accompanying visuals in the form of FZ's own experimental 8mm films (Motorhead Sherwood described one such film depicting the Los Angeles County Fair carnival, double exposed with passing telephone poles).

Anything from the Whiskey to the Garrick to the 88 tour. I miss seeing FZ perform...any release would be welcome. Thank you for sharing the nuggets from the vault...(both audio and video)

The Rage and the Fury DVD and CD set...I've heard that the movie was back in ZFT's hands, no?

I would love to see the live stuff!.. To me that's what Frank was all about. It was not only a feast for the ears, but a feast for the eyes. To watch him perform and his interaction with the musicians is what stands out in my memories of the great composer! (Any live stuff from Chicago out there?)... How about when he did "Murder by Numbers" with Sting.

See, there is so much. I would suggest two formats, a 'vaulternative' set of releases (where the video is rare, or of unusualy import to the project/object, like anything from the Garrick) and a Zappa video release schedule (spiffed up, like the TTN).

Gail, does the ZFT have the rights to 200 Motels?

All the old Honker Home Vid stuff should be re-released, It would seem that there are add'l footage that could flesh out "The True Story of 200 Motels" and UM.

I always wanted a good DVD of Run Home Slow and The World's Greatest Sinner, since you asked :D

I Would like to see a concert DVD from the 1978-79 Band or a You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore style DVD that show cases the best footage of live performances in double disc set.

I heard they're going to do a Beat The Boots series of DVDs as a follow up to the Torture Nevers Stops show. Next will either be Barcelona 88, Stockholm 73 or something else that we already have in almost perfect quality will be basically upgraded just a tweak.

The YCDTOSA proposition is brilliant.

Well, can you cite your source?
Let's hope for them 200 Motels is in the roadmap because the unauthorized DVD has been made widely available.

I'm very happy with the video tape of Barcelona 1988, including the bullfighting highlights after the broadcast. But I would be happier with the Beatles encore and the break in transmission of the adverts to be healed

The entire Royal Festival Hall performance, October '68.
Extras could be the King Kong performance from the BBC archives. It used to be on youtube in an extended form with soloing from Bunk but the quality was gash.

I give in..... I admit it - anything from the '60's Mothers and prior

A full concert performance of The Yellow shark.
