Keep buying that "surround sound"! That will keep the price of real audio equipment down nice and low!

Ahhhhh listening to Grand Wazoo on Vinyl right now.

Thanks for the compliments, I do not own a site.
Copy that! I will bury you again in my ignore list so I will not read your whining anal unpunctuated answers.
If you are tired with my posts, just ignore me too, it is less costly than writing an answer.

Blimey!
I didn't realise the mere mention of 5.1 could virtually start a war!
It was alot simpler 20 odd years ago when I had my 1st 5.1 system
No-one seemed to know what a subwoofer was, let alone surround sound (which is now over 30 yrs old) so no arguing, apart from the usual "What!!!?? £500 for one speaker that only plays bass???!!!" - It was a lot of dosh back then...
Now I have a twin subwoofer setup just to put further cats amongst pigeons....
Anyway I digress - Yes there is no comparison between stereo and surround sound - don't argue I'm right.
Best album to try out? Pink Floyds Dark Side Of the Moon - it's the only PF album I own.
Sadly I find that one of the worst sounding in my opinion is FZ's "Halloween" although I do like the surround drums in "Zeets"
A bit like if your 1st pint of Guinness is a duff one - If this was the 1st surround album you ever heard you would probably wonder what the fuss is about and not understand the attraction.
Remember though, Frank DID release 2 albums in quad, which have still to be released in surround as originally intended. I've given up making enquiries about when/if this is ever likely to happen.
Lastly, personally I don't really want it to sound like the band is in front of me or exact realism - I like things going on all over the place.
I can almost hear the sound effects used in "Excentrifigal Forz" whizzing around the room right now.....

I've seen ads for three FZ albums in Quad. WB advertised Roxy & Elsewhere to be released in Quad but it never was. I had Apostrophe (') on Quad 8-track in my car back in the '70's, which was great to hear all the sounds swirl around in Excentrifugal Forz and DETHYS, as well as the instrument separation in the other tracks (hope this FZ mix gets released in DVD surround someday). Also there have been two more posthumously, so the demand hasn't been there to justify any more releases. I had an email from Joe Travers years ago stating that they were looking into expanded releases of Baby Snakes tracks and maybe The Torture Never Stops in surround audio, when I mentioned some suggestions for a Halloween II DTS DVD, which he thought was an interesting proposal.

Halloween's 5.1 mix I thought sounds pretty good, especially the crowd noise during the intro. It is a live mix mad for stage presence, to effects, except for Zeets. I also have Eagles Hell Freezes Over in 5.1 which is equivalent in mix, even the studio stuff. QuAUDIOPHILIAc is a 4.0 mix, no sub and single rear channel, but it still has great presence on some cuts where each musician has their own channel, and the orchestra cuts have the same live presence. Dweez did a great job putting this one together. Venusian Time Bandits and Wild Love show off the potential of surround mix, even in 4.0. I fell the DTS presentations are more pronounced and "discrete" in the stage presentation than the DVD-A surround sound.

My set up in not state-of-the-art but it sounds great. My Toshiba amp is over 10 years old but the simulated 5.1 on regular CDs sounds great, also.

5 out of 80 Albums (3 out of 57).

I love music in surround (5.0 here), but not every day.
Got to go to my basement and it's cold these days.
QuAudiophiliac is the best DVD-A I've got.
I've noticed recently that Does Humor Belong In Music was surround too.
I really want Over-nite Sensation, Apostrophe and One Size Fits All in their original quad mixes.
I want the Roxy & Elsewhere DVD and 200 Motels in surround.
And I want full shows and classic albums remixes (yeah, why not Joe's Garage?).
Other than Zappa, I really like those one:
Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon (of course)
Queen - A Night A The Opera
Queen - The Game
The Beatles - Love
Deep Purple - Machine Head

I wish I could have some Jimi Hendrix.

Ian Anderson's "Thick As A Brick 2" is coming out in April in 5:1 Surround. (my pre-order is already in.)

I don't know why they don't just give them surround sound mixes just for advertisement :D
