Welcome to Phaze II. Last Page Phaze I

The last non Zappa album I bought was Breakfast For Dinosaurs by The Fowler Brothers (1988). I didn't like much of it because it was a bit too much of that LA sound for me, but Bruce Fowler's compositions aren't too bad. Tom Fowler's stuff is my least favourite and the singing on his tracks just makes me want to puke. There is a composition on there called "No More Mr Nice Girl" which made me believe it was a cover of L Shankar's piece from 1979, but no it's an Albert Wing composition and a bit ho hum.

Can anyone recommend any of their other albums that might be different to this?

it's the version with the newly rlsd feb56 show and the july55 'Round Midnight with Monk at the Newport Jazzzfest. this appearance was where the research guy from Colombia saw Miles and made up his mind to take a chance on a reformed but unrepentant Miles Davis
wish I had a scanner, I'd give you the back picture instead

I really like that thing, I think it's their best record so far, even if it's just an E.P.

Really? I've got all their records and it's pretty violent except one song on "Miss machine" that is a bit pop.

I think it was their last promo video?....I remember watching it wondering who it was, and at the end it said it was DEP. Didnt like it at all, the vocals were all Funeral For A Friend-esque, gay nu - metal bollocks...Saw em live a few years ago when they were still pretty hardcore, and gotta say they kicked ass.....

You should purchase Calculating Infinity by da DEP. It's a relentless barrage of clattering Math Rock, performed with stunningly consumate intricacy.

I agree with you, Calculating Infinity is good too. Actually they're all good in my opinion.

Just arrived in the post today: Duke Ellington Far East Suite Special Mix and Bartok, 4 Orchestral Pieces and Concerto for Orchestra, Pierre Boulez conducting Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I'm enjoying the Duke Ellington much more than my previous non Zappa purchase. I'm just listening to the Bartok right now. The third item that came in the post was a Zappa cover album, Colin Towns and the NDR Big Band that I've mentioned elsewhere. I've been waiting for this bundle more than two weeks now so I was pretty excited when I got home from work to find the post office slip in the letter box.
