Bogus Pomp at Zappanale

Bogus Pomp:
is a 10 piece ensemble based in Tampa Bay Florida and lead by guitarist Jerry Outlaw. Since 1994 the group has performed the music of Frank Zappa exclusively. Bogus Pomp members are an unlikely combination of educators, symphony players, jazzers and rockers, all with a common interest in Zappa's repertoire. This diversity is a key factor in the groups ability to create Zappa's compositions in the style of his 70's and early 80's rock bands. The group has performed several concerts with Ike Willis and Napoleon Murphy Brock as featured performers. Bogus Pomp continues to perform the music of Frank Zappa and is constantly striving for a larger repertoire from Zappa's vast catalog. The band plans more orchestral collaborations and is ongoing ZAPPAWEEN concerts. Frank Zappa's music is timeless and will have a lasting place in the 20th Century music history. Bogus Pomp is grateful for the opportunity to go forth and kick ass.

It's very nice that AB gave some stage time and mentoring to these kids(and I sincerely mean that) but this performance is filled with uncountable mistakes and I am talking about everybody on that stage.

Upon listening to the first verse alone I really had to fight my way from not just shutting this off. I kept my eyes and ears open for I wanted to see AB do this material again. Unfortunately it just never went anywhere but downhill. I don't know who was making more mistakes AB or the backing band of Rock students. For a Zappa song that should be very easy for a backing rythem section and vocalist to carry there was just a total lack of coordinated rythem betwen them. This was the least of the problems.

It's notlike I want to throw tomatoes but Paul was so excited about working with AB (as very well as he should be) but Paul's interest was to the point he was a bit arrogant about it. At least Paul admits these kids make lots of mistakes.

Once again the best thing I can say about this Rock School stuff is that it gives these kids a place to learn Rock & Roll and even have a chance to play along with some famous rock stars. There families come out and support there live performances. I'll light a Christopher Candle for them wishing them all the best but please whoever posted this please do everyone a favor and remove this from youtube. It's in poor taste and there has to be better RockSchool performances for people to enjoy. Post the good ones at least. The ones that are at least in the general ballpark.

GO FUCK YOURSELF!! I have been playing bass for 5 years, I can't do shit like these kids. This is INSPIRING, its not perfect but it has another purpose, it makes me WANT TO LEARN, it gets me EXCITED when I'm discouraged about not getting the licks in the black page or when i get frustrated listening to a buried bass mix on far too many albums. I'm sorry its not good enough for you, but just don't watch it. They know its not perfect, I know its not perfect, people who are looking for zappa cover bands on youtube know its not perfect. If i want perfect I'll put in my stockholm in bondage bootleg if i want fun I might see what these KIDS are doing and get exicted about ZAPPA MUSIC. They are under seventeen you sonofabitch go fuck yourself and go critisize a fucking kindergarten classes art project. I can't believe you. NOTHING ANYONE HAS EVER SAID ON THIS FORUM, ANYONE, HAS EVER MADE ME SO AMAZED AT THE CAPABILITIES OF HUMAN STUPIDITY. YOU HAVE TRULY OUTDONE YOURSELF.

You are really missing the point. I've seen the SOR Zappa Allstars and at moments in time what they do is quite inspiring on many levels and certainly not limited to a view of students playing Zappa perspective. School of Rock has performed far more difficult Zappa arrangements and been in the ballpark. I was quite surprized, shocked, at just how bad that particular overall performance was including AB. I'll say it again including AB.

Don't get me wrong I love AB, everything he had ever layed his hands on but this was one moment in a shinning career that was a total dud.

As far as kids under 17. Some kids get to Carnegie Hall at the Age of 5 because they are virtuousos at 5. That's far from the norm and not what I expect from SOR. I like that kids of todays generation are getting into Rock and Roll but that performance was turd, a rotten egg.

If you've been playing bass for 5 years and anything you or your band does can not sound remotely in the ballpark to that performance I feel sorry for you. If it makes you feel good keep playing though.

Give these kids two more years and I'm positive they'll be able to nail it.

I mean, come on, the people on the album had been playing at least as long as most of these kids have lived..
