A simple but very good song, our band often plays it.

Yeah I love that one too!

We Are Not Alone is one of my favourites and my youngest son, eleven, loves it, I keep catching him humming it about the place.

I think "Just Another Band From L.A." is underrated, and often overlooked next to "Fillmore East". Fillmore gets all the attention because of the Mudshark routine and because it's "At The Fillmore", but I think JABFLA blows that album away. It's a blast and it just rocks more.

I like JABFLA, but I generally either start it from Call Any Vegetable or listen to Billy The Mountain alone. I don't know why..I rarely listen to Greggary Peccary in the context of Lather, either.

I haven't, hopefully, derided the musicians on TYS, but I am suggesting that their interpretation is intrinsically biased towards a new/modern interpretation of how classical composition can sound. Perfect for FZ, as we know him.

Their interpretation was not based on a "must be modern in my performance" attitude which is what I found deriding. It was based on a genuine desire to achieve the best performance according to FZ's requirements. Which ultimately is what performance of composition was about according to FZ. There are performers who believe that performance is more about the performer and individual interpretation. Whatever the case, the Ensemble Modern had the advantage of being able to work closely with the composer himself over an extended period of time and that gave them an advantage over people who can only work with scores.

Also with classical musicians, some of them may be boring but a significant percentage of them are not.

Eric Vaxxine wrote:
As for depreciating his music in your opinion, I can only apologise. I am in no position high enough to cast meaningful evaluation of his work.

NOISE - sorry - air sculpture more like.

Maybe I jumped to conclusions here but I've never seen or heard the term "noise" used in other than a deprecating sense about music.

Sorry, liberty taking as in 'Make a Jazz Noise Here'.

I have had my own live performances referred to by 'academically educated' musicians as 'the overall noise we heard was too jazzy/rocky/atonal' etc.

It might have appeared blase as a comment.
I meant 'noise' as a pigeon holeable source or genre.

Me neither. It's so much easier to put on Studio Tan and just press play.

Actually, I don't own Studio Tan, so I meant neither. Normally, if I listen to Greggary, it's completley by itself, seperate.

Most underrated album: The Man From Utopia!! It's got SEX, Drugs, and Rock n Roll. I like to listen to it while on Trendy Chemical Amusement Aid.

Another one is Broadway the Hard Way. The style and feeling is so different from any other Zappa CD

I got this album from my girlfriend and I totally like it. I think the political comments in the lyrics are very good and still so much up-to-date. If FZ would still have lived, he would have come across pretty much the same mentality as he was facing then. I really like all the songs on it! I love the sound and perfection of the '88 band.

Broadway is a cool album, but hard to get into, as some of the fun seems solely aimed at American audiences.

Well, to give Erica benefit of doubt, chances are she actually also implies that the "bonus tracks" to UM are under-rated.

The bonus stuff on Uncle Meat deserves to be underrated.
They suck and they don't belong there amidst the other tracks. :P

The original Uncle Meat = masterpiece.
Uncle Meat w/ bonus tracks = flawed masterpiece.

And I can't say I disagree.

What infuriates me more than those bonus tracks themselves is the fact that you could easily have all the original UM material on just ONE CD! But noooo, there has to be those redundant chunks that make up 50 minutes or so and thus you have a 2cd re-release. Rip-off. God, what was FZ thinking when he opted for all the blatant revisionist tactics in the 80s.
