Many of you are new and might not remember our intrepid host of the old Z Chat, good and constant Zappa fan, Studabaker Hop (Stewie). But I think some of his friends are still here, though. I am sorry to say that he passed away over the weekend leaving everyone who knew him and chatted with him at a loss. Please leave a message so we can remember him better. Here is a little more about him.

Rest in Peace
Studabaker Hop (Stewie)

Gentle sweet man with a wry and wicked sense of humour. Music lover, admirer of Frank Zappa and avid blues music collector. Saw Frank seven times in his life, always when he came to Montreal as soon as he was of an age to go to the places where he appeared. Almost met him in person when he happened to be in the same building where La La La Human Steps was rehearsing. (You just missed him!) Another highlight was when he saw what was basically the Fillmore album performed live in Montreal. He was in the audience for the Montreal segment which appeared on the Imaginary Diseases album. (I can almost hear you there  .) His favorite FZ album was Uncle Meat. He also was very fond of Captain Beefheart and many, many blues artists. All the old timers like James Blood Ulmer, Muddy Waters, The Howlin Wolf, Skip James and also newer artists like Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jeff Beck. He had wide tastes, these are just skimming the top and he was always open to something new. He said that if he lost his music collection he would just freak. And he shared this love generously with others.

He was looking forward to getting his motorbike out now that the weather up north was getting warmer (at last!) and of getting back on his feet after a long illness. You will be sorely missed, my friend.

with much sadness
Sabrina

Meu Amigo Studabaker Hop de Montreal,

Obrigado por tudo e vá em paz para o próximo nível. Espero que você curta os show do Zappa ao vivo no Céu.

Descanse em Paz

I sure do remember "Stewie" from not only the forum but the old "Z-Chat" and knew he had become seriously ill at some point but not that he was terminally ill, although it seemed that that might be the case from reading a few of his last posts.

Well, that indeed was really was the case.

"R.I.P." Stude_Hop, you certainly will be missed.

From what I gather, he suffered a heart attack at the later part of last year. Which rendered him unable to walk. Maybe he got another heart attack, this time a fatal one. Although I ain't sure if this was how he deceased.

Nobody knows for sure yet, but he didn't have anything terminal.

I recall having a few discussions with him over the past few years and this news, even though I didn't know him well, shocks me. As Bat brought up already, I knew that he wasn't well but didn't really know the extent of his illness...and of course, these now tragic circumstances...

No matter how many "heated" discussions I get in, EVERY Zappa fan (well, almost any) has my respect, especially one as hardcore as Studabaker Hop.

RIP, Studabaker Hop.

His last post here was on 26th March to say he was listening to the Otis Rush Album called Mourning in the Morning. Goodbye Studabaker Hop.

Seems like I was just reading a recent post from him. Just a few days ago.

I send my condolences to his family and friends. He'll be missed.

I've enjoyed reading his posts over the last several months since joining and he seemed like a decent guy.

Sleep peacefully brother.

Such a shock :!: :!:

The forums of the distant (& more recent) past were better off for his being there.

Wow. I'm in shock. I spent many a fun time in the old chat with my buddy Stew The Jew as I used to like to call him. That fucker used to make me laugh my ass off. I knew he had some health issues recently and I'm glad I was able to wish him well before he passed. I'll miss him.

R.I.P. Stewie. I'll never hear Peter Green again without thinking of you. Enjoy the next life, my friend....
