I was Googling around and came across this great pic that I thought would be cool to share with you. Perhaps it's been previously posted, but I don't remember ever seeing it before now.

Here's the story behind the photo:

photographer: Alex Waterhouse-Hayward

Alex's story: A week ago I was taking photographs of shoe designer John Fluevog on Granville Street. I told him that he and Frank Zappa had one thing in common. Fluevog looked at me perplexed, and I explained it all had to do with the davit imperial. I pointed at his soul patch, (which Fluevog called an imperial) and told him that I had photographed Zappa in 1980. I had asked him what he called the hairy protuberance under his lower lip. Before he could reply a waiter at Bud's Good Eats asked him what he wanted to drink. Zappa asked for the list of beers. The waiter mentioned over 15 brands. Zappa said, 'Bring me a ginger ale,' and looking at me, 'a davit imperial.'

31 August 1968
The Catacombs Club
3003 South Post Oak Road
Houston, Texas, USA

Imagine yourself in the lobby of a Holiday Inn with The Mothers Of Invention walking about. The front door opens, and a very drunk redneck walks in, and to his astonishment, bumps into Frank Zappa. In a very slurred voice he asks, "Hey, are ya'll in some kinda hippy combo or sumpin'? You look like you couldn't play anything, let alone good music like country." Frank, with perfect diction, says, "Sir, see that man over there? (pointing to Ian Underwood) He has a Masters Degree in music from Julliard and actually made his own complex electronic organ. Oh, and that gentleman with the green moustache, he used to play for the Cinncinatti Philharmonic Orchestra. Any more questions?" The drunk staggered off.

I thought the old relic of a gas pump behind him in that picture had something to do with "Winding up Working in a Gas Station".
