hey feets!
have you got 'Let The Buyer Beware'? it's a 6cd career overview of Lenny Bruce. Delish, wide ranging, very funny. You get a real sense of why he was a true comedic genius without such hype-fixations on 'perversity'.
SUPER!
released by SHOUT! FACTORY, it's still on amazon

hey punkster!
Yes, I have that Lenny Bruce release. It's great! Most of the stuff in that is pretty much previously unheard/unreleased material - or at least unheard versions of his "bits". Bought it off iTunes - it's available as 6 separate albums there.

the only other things I have of him like that are the Curran Theater, SF 1961 show on three records and
the Berkeley Concert, 1966 on 2 discs that Frank produced for BIZARRE records . . .
both are great, wish I had more still, but should listen to the Buyer Beware set more often

Not sure if they're still in print, but "The Lenny Bruce Originals" Volumes 1 and 2 are essential as well - they're his first 4 albums on 2 CDs, comprised of shorter bits, before he became more free-form (like on the Curran and Berkeley sets).

Berkeley Concert was my first Lenny album, and I was sold. The whole "Pow! Face full of crap!" part at the beginning is genius.

Most recently I got "Thank You Masked Man", more early Bruce, but apart from the classic title routine, the rest is pretty disappointing.

Just got a copy of an Adrian Belew Power Trio show from 8/21/07, at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro NC. It was the day before I saw them, so it was the same set, and just as good as I remember.

It's making me really antsy to pick up Belew's latest trilogy of releases, Side One, Side Two, and Side Three. His new material is seriously good.

Freak Out 4cd box to be available to all, why so limited?
Thank goodness a friend has an original, he has given many copies to people who would buy it.
Is the next going to be so damn hard to get?

I've got all the official FZ CDs. I've got a whole heap of other CDs that I'm pretty content with. I just finished reading The Rest Is Noise, a book about 20th C music, and thought I'd get some more stuff by Stravinsky (already got a heap), some stuff by Britten and Ives (haven't got any), and while I was at it I discovered a Grandmothers album from 2003.

Having decided to buy the downloadable versions I discovered that iTunes Australia has ridiculous prices and I'm not allowed to buy from the US or the UK. Then I discovered that I could buy £25 worth of CDs from the UK and get free postage to Australia and end up paying significantly less than buying the mp3s from my local distributor. That's just fucking insane.

Anyhow, they're on their way. Woohoo!!

I agree with polydigm that you can get most of the music you want these days. Sometimes I crave a particular record, and then I usually find it after a while, like the Beefheart Decals CD. You know I'm looking forward to Bat Chain Puller.

Of Zappa, I wish for a double or triple CD of loose guitar improvisations in the vein of Ancient Armaments and Persona Non Grata, compiled and produced (sonically) by someone like Fred Frith and/or Henry Kaiser. They understand guitar, improvisation, composition and sound and would surely come up with something mindblowing, given free access to the Vault. Not even Zappa himself valued those vast oceans of sound highly enough (as per his comments in the October 1978 Boston radio interview, when he played the soundboard cassette of Persona Non Grata). A compiler/editor with the insight of Frith and Kaiser could make an album like that a major event and a cornerstone in the discography.

But I fear - there ain't no Santa Claus on the evening stage...

I fear the closest thing the ZFT supposedly could deliver would be a number of Bozzio-saturated tracks compiled by some raucous Metal turd or Red Hot Chili Pepper cokehead --
Dweezil is a Heavy Metal nerd. I sincerely doubt that GZ knows who or what Henry Kaiser is. She's busy praising John Frusciante. The sound issues with most of the vault stuff speak volumes -- (And still, they're doing pretty well, IMHO)
:smurf:

Not exactly everyday listening, but cool in a white-noise kinda way. What other releases have you heard and like?
