At the back entrance to the old Palladium on E. 14 Street in Manhattan, on 29 October 1981, Frank was signing autographs when a fan offered him a hit on a joint. "No thanks," said Frank. "That stuff makes you stupid."

I passed a joint one Monday morning on the can. It had been quite a weekend.

I don't know, maybe it takes just as many brilliant comments as this one:

Anyway, a guy sharing his own personal tale of being with Frank is not my exact idea of a stupid thread...

I'm not surprised, Frank didn't drink or do drugs. He only smoked cigs (the tobacco kind). 8)

Once I met a guy who rooted a girl who knew a guy who was once told by an acquaintance that when Frank Zappa was out here in the 70s his friend had asked him if he wanted to go to the show but he couldn't because he had to work or something.

yah...about five years ago I was at a party in Sydney.....
this thuggish drug dealer type was spinning a yarn about how he'd sold Frank an ounce of pot when Frank was here in '73

I didn't have the nerve to say anything at the time....

but needless to say I didn't believe a thing the guy said from that point on....
fuck some humans bog me up the wall backwards...

Nope, I think people with a west coast mentality have a gift for flakiness that allows them to "let loose" creatively, naturally, where as some more anal-retentive types "serious" musicians need chemical aids. If Frank did anything, it would be for fun, not that he really needed it for work inspiration.
Ahhhh, but we all know his poison was coffee and cigarettes and mary-j didn't even factor, (he's only taken it about 10 times apparently and wasn't a fan)

So you're saying groups like Aerosmith were anal-retentive?
Led Zeppelin too?
What about Kiss?
Bob Marley?
Jefferson Airplane?
Eric Clapton? (O.K. maybe)
The Kinks?
Rod Stewart?
Elton John?
The Beatles as well?
Come on......
Who do you think made Pablo Escobar rich in the first place?

I'm shocked too. Awesome how a musician doesn't need drugs to make some GREAT music though.

Frank never made it a secret that he didn't do drugs. Cigarettes and coffee, thats it. Same folks who think Dali was on LSD I suppose......
