can't pick one it's a tie between ralph, chester, vinnie, and bozzio with chad as probably my favorite solo career due to his album forty reasons and work with holdsy.

which brings me to a burning question. i saw zappa at the palladium one year on a halloweenie show with a huge band including belew and walley, i think ohearn, a guest spot from L shankar. i know it was with vinnie who seemed to solo over the entire gig but i think there was another drummer and i'm guessing it was chad but not sure. anyone have a guess?

Chad was my favorite.

Bozo tried too hard to steal the show. That's not a drummer's role.

I voted Vinnie. Hell, another day I'll vote for somebody else.

I pick Bozzio, even though I like Wackerman and I also recently found out that I have the same birthday as him, not same year though.

Always prefered Terry Bozzio even if I think Chad Wackerman is technically better.

Yeah! I also think Terry's drums sounded really great! Add Patrick O'Hearn's stylish and nimble bass playing, and you've got a hell of a rhythm team.

Watch this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPY_Wut6fk0) from 6:45-6:47 and you might think Ed Mann was a second drummer.

I'd have to say Ralph Humphry has the chops and reading ability like no one else. I did a tour of PIt once and Ralph was there doing some shit I have never seen anyone do that involved hand to hand flams split between the feet and hands.

Bozzio does pack a lot of notes into his stuff but he really doesn't have nowhere near the rudimental mastery of Humphry's.

He did however take some lessons from Rob Carson who was one of my contemporaries back in the 70's whom no one could beat except my drum instructor in drum corps and who now teaches technique at PIT.

Watch this video [There, fixed to be more click-able - EOM] from 6:45-6:47 and you might think Ed Mann was a second drummer.

That sure looks cool. Dig that extra clang provided by Mann.
