The solo on that song has got to be one of the greatest he ever did. It may be one of the greatest anyone ever did.

I just watched the Band Of Gypsys video, and realized for the first time that he did most of that solo just standing there in front of a bank of amps with his feet together, his eyes closed, and his first finger barred over the twelfth fret. He did everything with the other three fingers, with a pick and the whammy bar in his other hand.

BTW: Buddy Miles died a couple days ago. He was the last surviving member of that band.

That was the first Hendrix album I ever owned so it's always been special to me. RIP Buddy.

There's a cool story, which I of course can't find, about those shows. How Bill Graham thought that Jimi was dumbing down his playing to appease the masses. As the story goes, Jimi went out and did Machine Gun and went back to the wings and asked him, "That good enough for you motherfucker?"
I wish I could find that actual story somewhere oneline. I think it was recounted in the Electric Gypsy book.

Anyway, I love that song.

YES! I didn't realize how he played that solo until I saw that video too. Unfuckingbelievable! And it's NOT a repetitive solo at all! Pretty cool.

Yes, pre-ordered. I got both Winterland and West Coast Seattle Boy box sets over the holidays. He was so inventive, what great stuff he could have done :(

Machine Gun, because it contains the most intense, transendent, powerfully beautiful solo Hendrix ever released. Every time I hear it, the world just stops and I get sucked back into it again. Just incredible.

I hope the new release contains GOOD new material. My sense has always been that the decisions Jimi made about what to release and not release were good. Most of that stuff isn't all that great, relatively speaking.

CBS will air a special episode of Hawaii Five-0 after the AFC Championship game on Sunday, Jan. 20 that will feature new music from Jimi Hendrix, TVGuide.com has learned. [...]

Hendrix might have passed away years ago, but Hawaii Five-0′s upcoming episode will feature seven never-released songs from the music legend. The tracks, “Bleeding Heart,” “Mojo Man,” “Hey Gypsy Boy,” “Inside Out,” “Crash Landing,” “Hear My Train A Comin’” and “Somewhere,” make up seven of the 12 songs on the upcoming brand-new Hendrix album People, Hell and Angels, which will be available to everyone on Tuesday, March 5. Great tune I saw him play that New Years eve 1970 in NYC

My favorite will always be "Purple Haze." First time I heard it, I was driving over 30th Ave. to a temp job at Lane Community College, which was just then being built. It got me so excited, I had to pull off the road. Very few songs have affected me that way. Danny Gatton's "Sun Medley" is the only other one that comes to mind.

I don't know about a favourite but when my sister bought me the original Band of Gypsys LP when I was a young teenager it blew my mind. The album was pretty good too ... just kidding ...

I'd heard bits and pieces of other Hendrix music but I loved the stuff on that LP. I still have a soft spot for it.

How could one possibly not like Hendrix. Here is one track from the single best live guitar performance ever.

Band of Gypsy's Power to Love ( Pardon the hyperbole.)

And Buddy Miles drumming is great too.

Good example, he was a seriously talented individual. Ultimately, I don't care who does or doesn't like what I believe to be good music, just as long as it doesn't prevent it from happening.
