No, no, no, I don't mean Gail, Dweezil, Moon, Ahmet or Diva (although you might talk about them if you want). I am talking about still other Zappas around the planet.

I happen to know one myself, in Brazil. Mr Adilson Zappa:

Heheh, nice piece of Conceptual Continuity there. I suppose Dr. Frank Zappa also treats podobromhidrosis?

It's been more than four years since a Kearney teenager was kidnapped from a shopping mall parking lot.

Anne Sluti was was held captive for six days before finally being freed in Montana.

She recently spoke to Dateline, in a report broadcast Sunday night, about what she endured back in April of 2001.

When Anne arrived back in Nebraska a black eye was one sign of the physical assaults she endured at the hands of her kidnapper, Anthony Wright, also known as Anthony Zappa.

Emergency Room pictures show the bruises from her ordeal.

Anne Sluti told Dateline that Zappa would tie, chain and tape her up when they were on the move.

One time he offered to let her go if Anne could free herself from the duct tape he used to bind her wrists and ankles.

She says, "There was a barbed wire fence. I tried to cut the stuff off my wrist with one of the barbs but I, like, cut myself and it didn't work very well."

She says Zappa then tried to burn the duct tape off with a lighter and it burned her arm, leaving a scar.

Anthony Zappa was convicted in 2002 of kidnapping and is serving a life sentence in Kansas.

Anne Sluti continues to pursue her degree in engineering.

In the Kurt Vonnegut book Slapstick there's a character whose name is Vera (Chipmunk-5) Zappa. She's one of the few remaining people alive on Earth.

Yeah! A lot of people are walking around on the planet without knowing that they are living violations of a registered trademark. Some day, they will all get sued by the ZFT!

Yeah, I've got a copy of it. It's okay. The main thing I remember about it is that Candy's descriptions of Frank's final days are really touching.

zappa is a standard chess program, which is to say that is an alpha-beta searcher using nullmove forward pruning, various extensions, and a heuristical evaluation...it is written in [on whatever it is that they write it on up there] c++, although it is not particularly...blah blah blah

zappa is not named for the great frank zappa, or at least not directly; frank rather quixotically named his daughter "moon unit", and mike myers used this in austin powers 2 in a scene where dr. evil talks about how he has divided his moon base into "moon unit alpha" and "moon unit zappa"... i had just finished reading a book by bruce pandolfini, "chess openings: traps and zaps", and i thought that zappa had a nice sound to it... i have never actually listened to a single song of frank, although i am quite fond of several of his quotes. interestingly, frank liked chess and apparently used to play with the band quite a bit

zappa 2.0 is among the best, since zappa has never played in any extensive human tournaments, its fide rating is unknown, but based on its score against gm ehlvest I would estimate it at 2750+ when run on a quad opteron... sadly, the machine is split into two parts and zappa can only use 512 processors at once, but I estimate that it will be able to achieve a search speed of over 100 million positions per second, roughly equivalent to deep blue (of course, vastly superior in terms of actual play)...

zappa is a standard bitboard based alpha-beta (negascout) searcher unlike most engines, it uses an iterative search rather than a recursive one......blah blah blah

You would expect asteroids, if they need to be named, to get labels like Apollo or Zeus. And they do. But who would have thought Frank Zappa was up there, zipping irreverently through the cosmic vacuum?

Yesterday I heard the Dutch protest-song-singer Armand has played with FZ. Which kinda amazed me, since I'm not exactly one of his fans. Googling made me stumble into Armand Zappa, a lawyer, Armand van Helden, Flavio Zappa... but nothing to shed light onto this.

Can any of you shed light on this?

John Zappa, brewmaster:

There use to be a section on this page that stated that John was a distant cousin to Frank. I wonder why it was removed.
