Durfee Theatre, Fall River
1968-02-18

Quotes from cinematreasures:

The Durfee Theatre, generally considered the finest in the city's history, had its grand opening on August 29, 1929. It was a year and a half after the February, 1928 multi-block fire that destroyed much of central Fall River, including two
theatres, the Rialto (formerly Savoy) and the Premier. This new theatre was built on the same land previously occupied by the Savoy/Rialto. Its builders were William Durfee, Sr. and Nathan Yarmins. It was owned by the Durfee family and leased to Yamins Theatrical Enterprises, Inc. The opening attraction was the Marx Brothers film "The Coconuts."

The Durfee sat about 2,229 in the 1930s, with 1,391 seats in the orchestra, 1,000
seats in the balcony and premium-priced loge.

The very last bill at the Durfee was a Disney combo, "Scandalous John" and "Barefoot Executive" on September 7, 1971. There was an audience of 25 people. The operators did not renew their lease. The next day the projection and stage equipment were dismantled. The Durfee was a victim of economics and a trend that had produced the closing of many of the country's theatres.

The Durfee was razed in September and October of 1973.

Friedrichsau: big park in Ulm at the banks of the Danube with a little zoo (the Aquarium), small lakes and beer gardens. A lot of events take place here (Ulmer Zelt, Ulmer Volksfest).

There is a German tongue-twister "In´Ulm, um Ulm und um Ulm herum" ("In Ulm, around Ulm and round about Ulm").

There is a German tongue-twister "In´Ulm, um Ulm und um Ulm herum" ("In Ulm, around Ulm and round about Ulm"). But you don't need to be able to say it to have a great time in Ulm.

Friedrichsau Park, former Regional Garden
Show site beside the Danube.

Then, of course, there is that famous German composer.....Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern- schplenden- schlitter- crasscrenbon- fried- digger- dingle- dangle- dongle- dungle- burstein- von- knacker- thrasher- apple- banger- horowitz- ticolensic- grander- knotty- spelltinkle- grandlich- grumblemeyer- spelterwasser- kurstlich- himbleeisen- bahnwagen- gutenabend- bitte- ein- nürnburger- bratwustle- gerspurten- mitz- weimache- luber- hundsfut- gumberaber- shönedanker- kalbsfleisch- mittler- aucher von Hautkopft of Ulm.

How can you get anything done with an odd couple like that? Wait until I got you.

In 1988 FZ didn't play in Frankfurt. Maybe the halls were already booked in Frankfurt. So he went to Offenbach, which is very close to Frankfurt.

Freiburg is a lovely town between Black Forest and the border of Switzerland. One of my favourite towns over here.

Hey Fritz, I think last time I asked you, you said you don't keep your own archive of these venue pictures, so how do you keep up with which ones you've posted already? I realise the ones you've already posted are here in the thread, but it's getting pretty big now, it would be difficult to do a full scan of the thread just to check for a particular venue. Although, now that I've said that, I realise that even though the search function on this forum can be pretty crappy, it's quite good when you've got some very particular information to search with.

Anyway, I just felt like saying hello.
