I've written endlessly about my love for Flo and Eddie here in the past, not that they are my favorite era, but there is an air of fun and joy that surrounds everything they did. You can search for my posts if you are really interested in some intense diatribes on the subject! What I do want to offer up though is this set from France that I think is extremely fun and worth checking out, wish I could find a high quality version of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLV0lI-5 ... re=related

the last song of the set, who are the brain police? is the shit! i wish they would've released an official version of it. i'm gonna buy this album (disconnected synapses) on itunes (heaven forbid!) very soon.

speaking of youtube vids, the dutch documentary with a filmore west show is a really good video. check it out.

Yes indeed it is! I just wish we had that whole set from the dutch doc!!! And also, we need the full Call Any Vegetable from that other video, I can't believe they chopped that song up as an intro! crappy! But ya, that brain police is something else! It rocks so hard, who would have ever thought the creepy weird and wonderful song off Freak Out could become that!

Check this out:

Missing the FZ touch, but a great value for some pop entertainment. Good harmonies throughout, as one might expect. Disc one is basically the Mothers w/o FZ and both albums are worth a listen for any Flo & Eddie fans.

I like the Flo & Eddie era of The Mothers. My favorite FZ era was the original Mothers Of Invention. However, the Flo & Eddie Mothers was very well done. I love the 200 Motels movie. That's hilarious. And, basically, Flo & Eddie are the stars. Interesting to listen to the stuff that they did after the Turtles split up.

I agree with you again. Even if this is a great era, Penis Dimension is probably on of the man's worst songs. In my opinion that is. In 200 motels it's okay, but when listening to bootlegs, that ten-minute block becomes unbearable.

I really enjoy Concentration Moon, Mom & Dad, and especially Billy The Mountain from Playground Psychotics.

Also, stupid me... I just realized the reference in 'One Shot Deal' Australian Yellow Snow:

'And then there's an 'H' which stands for
Or used to about two years ago, stand for 'homunculus''

which seems to be a reference to Billy The Mountain (during the Studebaker Hoch Dancing Lesson and Cosmis Prayer for Guidance) from Playground Psychotics:

'RIGHT HAND FROM THE HEART-UH
(Professional)
LEFT HAND FROM THE HEART-UH
(Exquisite)
RIGHT HAND FROM THE HEART-UH
(Homunculus)
LEFT HAND FROM THE LEFT SHOULDER
TO THE HEART-Uh'

Because the version of AYS is from 1973 and the version of BtM is from 1971.

Anyhow... uh yeah... sometimes Flo and Eddie really can make a song rather silly, but sometimes (as in the case of the aforementioned songs) they can really make them great. (Although, I'd really like a release of Studebaker Hoch a la Apocrypha with the guitar solo.)

I like the Flo and Eddie stuff very much as well. I was always pissed off by the fact that when they released Fillmore East June 1971 on CD they never gave us the full WTP. I also love PP for the bigger BTM and the tape bits.

Here I may start some controversy. I like the John and Yoko stuff. I find Yoko's singing annoying if you listen to Don't Worry Kyoko (on the Live Peace in Toronto), but she can be taken in small doses (I think that her stylings were prescient and foreshadowed a load of pretentions art-rock later in the decade).

I lived for about six months playing an 8-track of 200 Motels every day.

fuck that! she ruins songs! :D check out the rolling stones circus dvd to see john lennon coaxing her to sing in a STANDARD blues song, and she wails and screams and fucks it up. she's horrible. i'm getting pp in the mail soon, maybe her voice will sound better this time...

my favourite from 200 motels is magic fingers (which is zappa's most rockin song!) and the shove it right in suite

Flo and Eddie Tonight!
(Skagit hotel/casino- just south of Bellingham, WA)
We're staying at the hotel, so maybe I'll get a chance to run into one or both of the guys in the elevator, or at the pool, or the horrible little casino.
If anything good happens, I'll report back on Monday.

Lyrically, perhaps. Melody wise, I'll disagree w/ ya. The instrumental version on Wazoo is pretty f-ing amazing.

Search out the Zappateers, they will help you find your way to the unreleased portion of "Just Another Band from L.A."!

I love this era of Zappa Music. I never get sick of the Flo & Eddie era band, and I love the film 200 Motels. There are also some old made for Dutch T.V. Zappa documentaries from that era floating around someplace. These are where Zappa got a lot of the footage used for the "True Stories of 200 Motels' video. Lot's of live footage of them playing, and Zappa talking about "200 Motels".

Great show on Saturday night. The room held 460, and we caught the late show. The band was solid, and The Phlorescent Leech and Eddie were very entertaining. They played mostly the hits of the Turtles (of course), but I was quite happily suprised when they broke into 'Road Ladies', followed by a truncated 'Peaches', and finally 'Magic Fingers'.
Fun times. I picked up the 'Pholorescent Leech & Eddie'/'Flo & Eddie' 2 CD set and got that signed, along with my 200 Motels LP.

It was kind of like my adolescent gateway drug to FZ's ouevre. I still find the flo and eddie material entertaining after more than three decades.

Same with me - my first experience of enjoying Zappa as a kid was on holiday in Italy when my brother played the Fillmore version of Peaches en Regalia endlessly on a crappy cassette machine. Later on, in adolescence, I found the Flo and Eddie era ideal for shocking and annoying my parents.
I still like the albums from that period, though I can't listen to them often as my wife objects.
