smoked for 22 years, Marlboro reds, finally quit 9 years ago. Best thing I did. I can't believe how fucking expensive they are now.

One thing that keeps me from wanting to smoke again is realizing that this has to be a really shitty time to be a smoker. I mean how many places are there that still allow smoking? I was lucky enough to catch a little bit of the final days of smoking in restaurants and bars. I couldn't imagine someone starting a smoking habit now. Why bother doing it if you can't smoke anywhere?

Places I can still smoke:

My Volvo, my front yard, my backyard and my favourite bar back in Montgomery - that'll do.

I smoked for 17 years. I started on Camel straights. Moved to Marlboro for many years - box, not pack. Then moved to True (the lower nicotine theory of fooling yourself) and finally to an ultra low nicotine cig, Cambridge. Tried to quit many times; occasionally made it for several months, but always lost the psychological battles and ended up smoking again. Finally, on August 4, 1987 I loaded up on anti-anxiety meds for 2 weeks and quit smoking for good, cold turkey. IOn the same day, I also started a pretty intense new job and my dad had a heart attack that almost killed him. So, getting through all that without a cigarette made it stick.

Having said that, I would smoke in an instant if it wasn't so damn bad for you. There is nothing on earth like it, it's just great. The morning cigarettes with coffee.... Chain smoking at work..... Beer and tobacco.... Smoking in bed after getting laid..... How else can you get that little bit of joy so often throughout the day?? I miss it, but even to this day I know I can't even handle one, must less take a hit. :)

I'm considering rolling my own from now on - I could use the practice (ahem).

In the meantime, I've had to put down my usual cigarettes for a bit. I hate switching brands, but I have to every now and then. Marlboro Lights give me heartburn and destroy my voice.

These seem to be working out a little better:

I smoked at 9 years old about one month but my mom found my pack under my bed and she make me smoke all the pack in one hour so since that time i hate that.

What are you paying now?
Because I buy from an Indian Reservation in Mastic Long Island not too far from my in-laws and I get a carton of Marlboro 100's for $32.60. In NYC I have to pay minimum $8.50 a pack!

I was going by what I have seen . 6 bucks for a pack of Marlboro, 1 pack a day, is 180 bucks, I can get a half oz of good stinky stuff for 150 bucks, easily lasts 30 days. I know prices vary. I live in Indian country and those are cheaper, but average retail is 5 to 6 bucks a pack. So like I have always said different smokes for different folks. 8)

Taxes just went up. My wife still smokes. It's getting to be very pricey.

The last pack I just got lasted me 4 days. I had quit for 2 months prior to that, and a couple years ago quit for over a year.

Non-smoker, never gave it a go. Never drink either (save that one gulp of wine I got at Westminster Abbey because I speak so little church-lingo that I didn't know what communion was), and never used drugs.
