It is documented fact Dance me This was written exclusively as something really fucked up for La La La Human Steps to try and orchestrate in a Modern Dance Format. I can understand why ZFT has waited to see it mounted as a "ballet" for lack of better term. What I am really waiting on is The Rage and the Fury. I recall Gail saying that she didn't believe there was enough market for this project to warrant a release, which depresses me intensely. I really wish I could hear Frank's interpretation of Varese. I don't care how long I have to wait, but on my death bed I pray I have this!!!!

While you could be right about GZ making a comment
I don't remember reading about Gail talking about this one.
I found it interesting that you and I have the same exact opinion on this.

I don't sit around getting depressed over any unreleased material.
Everyone deals with the fanaticism over everything the artist ever did.
I just learned a long time ago that for me it's best to use my eyes and ears
instead of reading and weeping. It's not that I am right and anyone is wrong,
it's just what is good for me.
Peace

Knowing how important Varese was to Frank, one of his top inspirations, his first major infulence and his last major release, i'd say its must have meant allot to Frank. Add to that, Franks skill with technology and using it to bring Varese's music to a new light and I put it on the top of my must hear list.

Eggzactly. This MUST see the light of day. Actually the project I most bemoan never getting to hear is Hunchentoot. It bothers me beyond beleif it was abandoned. I'm sure I am the only Zappa fan who feels this is the great lost work, but damn I love what little we have of it!

Hunchentoot is one of the least favorite Zappa projects ever, see the vocal songs off Sleep Dirt for examples! I love it though.

· In the May 2009 edition of Record Collector, Alan Clayson talks to Gail Zappa – principally about Lumpy Money and her own pre-FZ musical career. In this interesting article, Mrs Z reveals that The Rage & The Fury may never be released (“Frank didn’t care if anyone [else] heard it – and I feel the same,”), that FZ ‘ordered’ her to sell the master tapes of a second un-issued Wild Man Fischer album to Rykodisc, that she’s thinking of taking guitar lessons, and that she is keen to write her autobiography.

I find it hard to believe that FZ didn't want anyone to hear the performance, maybe he knew about legal issues that would keep it from happening. Otherwise why record it in the first place?

Yeah, Frank complained many times about the existing interpretations of EV's works. He clearly achieved, with the EM and the technology available, a life long ambition of his and bloody good he did. As FZ last known major project it is extremely important.

I don't buy Gail's 'FZ didn't care' excuse. It is probably more accurate that there is a legal issue in that the EV estate want to be paid for the composers work and GZ doesn't want to pay their required fee. Funny how when the glove is on another's hand she has a hissy fit and bloats out some bullshit about not caring if it is released.

If i am right Gail sent a video of Frank with EM while they were working on The rage and the fury album and the people who received this video dont want to give back to her.

Anybody has a link for this story?

Now I don't know much, but I definitely read about some material the ZFT could not get returned to them from some other company or group, is this it?

Pardon my ignorance but what is EM?

EM is Ensemble Modern, the musicians who play on Yellow Shark , Civilization Phaze III and Everything Is Healing Nicely (EIHN).

say what, gail? you feel the same? what about the rest of us?

is that why you're holding out on 'dance me this', also?

R&TF is lame - better release an encore from a Bozzio show in mono, which shall make an E.P.- length CD with a fancy FREE (!) 5x2'' out-of-date-b&w-Xerox-on-sandwich paper-FZ-discography flyer (YUM!)...then charge $20 for it 8)

Same with Dance me this...forget it, stamp it in the ground - makes its own sauce when your pumpkin's froze
