well, in my opinion, there's only one really bad tune:

tengo na minchia tanta

and, it's bad enough.
I will never understand why zappa was so fascinated by that nose-picking massimo bassoli guy...

Not a big fan of Conehead....it's pretty cheesey IMO. It's just song full of references to the skit.

Promiscuous

Only played once. Frank had the perfect chance to let that embarassment slip by almost unnoticed. Then he goes and releases it. Why?

I can think of another song that fits this description -- not an embarassment, but quite controversial. Name it.

the duke.

The song you're referring to is actually funny.

And no, she's not a Valley Girl.

The only redeeming factor I could find about the song "He's So Gay" is the lyric "he's got a role he wants to play".

If I had to choose one, Manx Needs Women has never really grabbed me.

The song Sex is pretty boring.

That Watermelon thing is just pathetic... :|

I always wished 'Packard Goose' would segue into 'Green Rosetta' right away

I wouldn't say "worst", but I could never get into "It Just Might Be a One-Shot Deal" and "Your Mouth." Lyrically and musically, the two songs seem very "of the time" and are now dated in a not-so-good way. Maybe it's the vocals that I can't get past.

My go-to answer for this one is always The Jazz Discharge Party Hats. I've always found it really gross and unfunny, and it's one of the rare cases where I think Frank really does come of sounding like a sexist asshole. It also doesn't help that I've never been a big fan of Frank's sprechgresang stuff to begin with.

The first time I saw Frank, he played Dinah-Moe Humm in an encore.

I loved that song - still do - but the way they performed it that night just killed me. They played as fast as humanly possible, cut out all the good parts, and Frank just recited the lyrics in sort of a let's-just-get-this-over-with deadpan.

That was the worst Frank Zappa song: the one he played for all the wrong reasons...

I think pretty much every live version I've heard of the song fits that description. It really only works for me on the album version where it sounds super sleazy and dirty. Played live, it kinda loses its edge.

I've never liked 'Spider of Destiny' from Sleep Dirt. Can't stand the vocal style. I haven't listened to it in like 15 years tho so things may change. I find as I get older I'm more tolerant of things I couldn't stand at one time.

Thought I heard somewhere that he was not a big fan of that song, but played it because he knew it was popular among his fans.

Wow. I couldn't remember how 'Promiscuous' went. It had never even registered in my brain. You are right, absolutely. It is an utter turd of a song.
Weird how my brain had sort of blanked the thing out...

On a par with 'Broken Hearts....'.
Maybe you had to 'be there' to get the humour, but I just get a bit embarrassed whenever that song comes on because it just seems gratuitous.

On a positive note, considering the total output of hundreds of tunes, I've really got to scratch my head to remember 'bad' Zappa.
That's got to be worth something, eh?

This from Arthur Burrow's site: "You got to play 'Dinah Mo Hum' a lot of times to get one of these." (FZ to me, in reference to his then brand new million dollar home studio.)

Every time I think I dislike that song the "La-la-la-laaaaa, la-la-la-laaa" part perks me right up.

I like a lot of the songs mentioned so far. But one man's meat is another man's poi, son.

I've skipped it for so many years I don't remember the bit you mean - I don't feel like investigating though.

Cletus - you need to get the earlier Sleep Dirt without the vocals. After one listen I don't think I ever played the with-vocals version again.
