Still makes fascinating reading...

So we can already see that "normal" touring gets higher average gross return if compared to YCFTOSA program?
Higher price / smaller audience cannot really compete with normal price / larger audience.

well, keep in mind that the smaller shows are cheaper to produce, cheaper rent, less overhead in general

Not necessarily. It really depends on a ton of factors. But essentially, the key in establishing concert demand is in the gross.

For example:

~ If market A's gross is $100,000 and the average ticket price is $100, then 1,000 tickets will be sold
~ If market A's gross is $100,000 and the average ticket price is $50, then 2,000 tickets will be sold
~ If market A's gross is $100,000 and the average ticket price is $25, then 4,000 tickets will be sold
~ If market A's gross is $100,000 and the average ticket price is $12.50, then 8,000 tickets will be sold

Etc., etc., etc.

---------------------------------------------------------

The primary reasons why ZPZ's grosses are down anywhere from 30-50% from their first tour in '06 is because a) they've been hitting many of the same markets each and every year and that usually oversaturates the market (however, I believe if Frank were still alive and touring annually, he'd be able to sustain the '06 tour grosses) and b) because the "special guest(s)" since the '07 tour has only been Ray White...and hence some fans don't want to see the same line-up over and over again.

This tour is now essentially only appealing to hardcore fans...

If only these figures could be offset against touring cost.
Concern being that we now have DZ raising his issue with hauling his guitar rig outside the U.S. and Aaron leaving a month early because transporting a couple of keyboards overseas is too expensive.
This doesn't exactly promise a bright future for the ZPZ touring future unless some cost-saving method can be found.

Maybe i'm being early with this assessment but it is clear that touring is pretty hard at the moment.
Eagerly looking forward to ZPZ arriving in the Netherlands 8 weeks from now...., have 5 tickets for Eindhoven.

Sarcasm isn't your strongest trait, is it?

I think you'd better go listen to an overrated Bob Dylan album, instead...

Like I said recently in another thread, I'm not 100% sure...but I'd be surprised if it was less than 50% of the gate from each show...

more likely it's a guaranteed flat amount for the band with a back end percentage deal.

the band will get the better part of a 70 / 30 or 80 / 20 split of ticket sales above and beyond the flat fee guarantee. plus meals and hospitality. The venue will also get between 15 - 20 % of all merch sales.

This has been my experience anyway

I went to see Dweezil with ZPZ in Richmond, Va at The Hat Factory last month. It was a good show. I sort of put myself in Dweezils place wondering how I would feel knowing these people are not here to see me but to hear my fathers music. Wanting the zany actics of a FZ concert. It reminded me of Hank Williams Jr being put on display not for his credentials but that of his father. I would of liked to hear some of Dweezils solo projects and not that of a cover band. Not that playing FZ's music is wrong it's just Dweezil is talented in his own right. I'd have to say I enjoyed Project/Object better listening to Napolean Murphy Brock an Ike Willis perform. 8)
