For long years i was shure, it was this one:

But then suddenly this one appeared and i realized, that there were a lot of competitors all the time:

for example:

what i don't like too much, is the portraitshot of you are what you is. the cover of tinseltown rebellion is also fine, but can't compete with the other works of Cal Schenkel (imho).

Yes, but he also used all of these covers by Gary Panter then for the CD-releases (which means for the remaining time of the rest of the universe), so i think, he felt OK with them 8)

I loved the Grand Wazoo cover so much I recreated it as a 3ft x 3ft painting and have it framed in my living room. (Don't worry, there's over 30+ differences from the original and I'm not selling it profiting from it in any way. Cal's the man.)

Burnt Weeny Sandwich.

Closely followed by Fillmore East.
Chortle chortle.

I like the Cal ones, and the DRW 'dog' pics.
The FZ portrait ones always seem a bit lazy in comparison. The Yellow Shark cover depresses me, though I love the package in general.

i heard a rumor that the cover for TYS was actually a photo of Zappa on his death bed.

honestly, i doubt its true. this is only what i've HEARD, and actually i've only heard it from one person years ago.

Never heard this rumor, but seems the same kind of nonsense, like the FZ-shit-on-stage-rumor. The photo already was used as poster for the YS-concerts. Its done by Richard Avedon (1923 - 2004), one of the most famous 20th century photographers (who also photographed FZ in the 70s and already photographed everybody: Chaplin, Monroe, Stravinsky,...). I think, it's a masterwork, for example the blur of the hair against the sharpness of the face. In my opinion it shows FZ with his whole self-confidence as artist as well as personality and defies dead in this short moment. So i am just not depressed by this cover (far from it performances of his music after his death depress me and i don't have much interest for them). I think, it is that kind of portrait, that serves the person for eternity, like paintings or statues did that job in earlier times (for example in the era of Francesco Z).
