"The Godfather Meets The Untouchables". (Showtime Records 003)
A 4-record box set of selections from various venues of the U.S.A. section of the1988 tour.
And, yes, all 8 sides are longer than 20 minutes each (total playing time = 3hrs. 16min. 49sec.)

{of course, this is all just a wild guess on my part. Image}

Thanks just plain doug. I never bothered to grab any of the many many bootlegs that used to be available in Poughkeepsie. I don't remember if I mentioned this elsewhere, there was a place called Record City, on any given day they had 40+ Zappa bootlegs in addition to the official material. It was a seventies style head shop and record store. Vintage posters, old tour books, drug paraphernalia, porn, sex dolls and toys, records, tapes and CDs. That place was really interesting, and all that was just the area open to the public. It was fuckin' paradise, for a kid who was used to the relative sterility of the mall.

Zappa never played Berkeley in 1969 so the picture is probably from november or december 1968

This picture of FZ in Rental shirt is Atlantic City in Sept 1969. I believe it is one of the last concerts of the Mothers. All the modifications of pick up and subsequent butchery of the Les Paul took place in less than a year. From very late 1968 or early 69 when a Bigsby and a tele bridge pick-up were installed, to just after the Euro tour of may - june '69, when FZ reappeared with a humbucker at the Newport concert in later June.

This photo must be after or during June 1969 possibly Newport. The reason why is that Franks Les Paul now has a humbucker in the neck position. This further modification took place after the European dates when the P90 was removed and a bit more wood from this poor old guitar was hacked out for this new pick up. I reckon this guitar was the sound of Hot Rats, however Dweezil reckons other guitars were used, I should have asked him which other ones - but he was busy handing out guitar picks like a Catholic priest dispensing the host.

I cant see how now you say it was first seen Newport when you quoted the above(do you have photos of newport?)
was the guitar seen moded with just the bigsby and tele Pickup!

back too the photos
not sure if these could give closer date.
who is the guy behind FZ i sure someone said on this forum before.
or the horns?

Hello Cleon,

There are photo's of FZ at Newport, Frank is wearing a light Blue denim shirt with his hair tied back in which the neck position humbucker has replaced the P90. I reckon the photo of Frank with his Les Paul which shows Don Preston possibly on Fender Rhodes behind him that Unica has recently posted on his continually excellent Memorabilia topic is a Newport photo (from Don Preston collection)

I have held this guitar when it was at auction, and even measured its neck. I reckon it's a 1953 (no serial number) I have a 1952 which feels smaller in my hand, but I reckon my guitar may have been shaved, as these early Les Pauls traditionally have thick club like necks. I have to say FZ's old guitar feels great, It is a lovely piece of wood. I was disappointed when my '52 felt smaller. That image of Frank in the Red pants and yellow jumper was taken at rehearsals at the Albert Hall in June 1969. The fellow beside him is Kansas.

Ah yes. I can state FZ in these photo's were taken during the rehearsal at the 1969 Albert Hall gig.The guitar still has both original P90's in place but with the addition of the Tele bridge pickup. The Humbucker was still another 2 or 3 weeks in coming. So these pics are BEFORE the arrival of the humbucker.

he's not giving the finger. it is a band cue. he used this thru out his entire career.

I got a feeling that the photo were Frank is using the finger cue was taken at the Garrick, I say this as there are very very few pictures of FZ using a Stratocaster during the 1960's. The only other one I know of was published in a Linda McCartney book called visions of light, and if memory serves that was the Garrick.

I'm not a player myself, but this one is a hell of a beautiful guitar -- congrats, diplo!
