Here is one of my favorites:<br><br>"Radio is consumed like wallpaper is consumed. You don't concentrate on the radio, you turn it on while you're working, you turn it on while you're driving. It's not like the old days when families sat around and looked at it. So the stations are formatted to provide a certain texture and ambience that will be consumed by people who view themselves in a certain way. You're going to listen to a certain texture because that reinforces the viewpoint you want to project to other people of who and what you are. It's the same thing as what you leave on your coffee table for people to discover when they come to your apartment. It's not a musical medium, it's an advertising medium."<br><br>--Frank Zappa<br>

The best you can do is show people the safe stuff during the day, then get a little freaky at night.
This is too true. I play squash and our comp nights often finish quite late and I sometimes listen to the car radio on the way home and I've often heard interesting stuff that would never make it's way into day time radio. We do have Triple J and ABC FM here in OZ which are not commercial radio stations and they're the only ones I can listen to during the day and there's also one that often plays some decent jazz. Mind you, I have an iPod Shuffle now, so the radio hardly ever goes on any more.

Thanks for the info, jimmie. <br><br>I do know a bit about Shuggie Otis though.. he reappeared on the music scene a couple of years ago when one of his albums from the 70s, "Inspiration Information" became somewhat of a cult record after a cd re-issue on David Byrne's label. Nice album in a soul/funk vein. He also composed "Strawberry Letter 23" for the Brothers Johnson.

Music, in performance, is a type of sculpture. The air in the performance is sculpted into something.

It works like this if you take any kind of a melody i don't care if it Hawaiian Music or whatever it is and you play it with a Fuzz Tone Guitar and a Certain kind of drum beat people will call it Rock N Roll but what you got is a Hawaiian song so how you Gonna Cauterize it.
Australia land
