Dear Mrs Zappa,
As has become painfully obvious today, your forum administrators aren't up to maintaining the forum. phpBB still hasn't been upgraded, two forum smilies are still unavailable and show up as blank spaces, fake forum accounts and identity theft is abundant, and the spam deletion appears to be nonexistent. Particularly with bots it is important to jump straight onto the nefarious activities and delete the offending posts immediately. Right now the forum cannot be used at all anymore.

For this reason I would like to offer my assistance. Since 2002 I have been a regular viewer of this forum, and I manage to visit it several times per day. Since 2005 I am SuperAdministrator of PackardGoose.com. I would be glad to become SpamChucker Deluxe to improve readability and save disk space.

I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Bonny Ploeg

Tried. The only way of getting a reaction from Gail by e-mail is by mis-spelling Zappa in the subject line.
(Just kidding, Mrs. G.!)

I don't think it's a good idea to speak my mind on the subject.

I have nothing against bonny, but I don't think it would be a good idea to give a forum member the ability to delete accounts.
spammers or non-spammers.

Ever tell you I collect Smurf comics? Well, not anymore since I have them all, at least all the ones Peyo made. They're great, puts the cartoon series in the shade!

Bonny knows forums, this I know. Let her show you what she can do. I don't think there's any conflict of interest - though she would probably have to withdraw from any partisan discussions, so as to remain neutral as much as possible. I believe she has the integrity to not abuse the privilege.

Moderators read the forums therefore ALWAYS have some form partiality unless of course they don't ever look at the forum like here.

I would rather have someone with a cool head like Bonny as a mod than some prick you don't even know who just sits as the man behind the curtain and all of a sudden people just disappear for some reason.

I can fully understand your worries, Lumpy and Fritz.
There was one forum I once frequented. It was about a game that one nice Canadian made and that got larger than life. To beat all the spam and deal with all the member questions, the game creator had an army of moderators. Among each other, the moderators were teasing each other with it, modifying each other's posts.
So basically the general boards got overloaded with mods, some 20 of them. Naturally a few used their power to change things they don't like, and me being a non-mod I often found myself under their attack. It had me crying a few times, realized it wasn't worth it, and went away. When the forum moved I didn't go with them. Shame because I really liked that game and its creator. And some of the people there.
There was one time I visited the Primus forum. I left when one of the moderators said I should die because I don't like Gabby Lala. She's no longer a mod there. Didn't help the Primus forum though.

So yes, having an extra moderator or admin does require someone who'll police it all in a good way, but when someone's job is "deleting spammers, the whole spammers and nothing but the spammers" there's a clear enough rule book to handle that. Admin has said himself he can't come here every day although bots require swifter reactions than that, so I don't see why we shouldn't have a Spam Chucker Deluxe. And as I know I am not someone to abuse power, I put myself up for it.

He did eventually lock down the Studebaker Hop thread as I requested. So I am thankful for that. 8)
